Post: Anoka-Hennepin School District
Posted by Chris English on 4/30/02
Dear Friends,
A financial report was issued to the Andover City Council
on April 9, 2002, which indicated that the Anoka-Hennepin
School District would provide $0.5 to $1.0 million per year
to lease a new Ice Arena. Reportedly, members of the Ice
Arena Task Force have been in contact with Board Chairman
Michael Sullivan. Although not corroborated, they reported
to the City Council that AHSD has committed to this
spending because they can raise levies for a lease without
a voter referendum.
In addition, I have reviewed the 2001 Audit for the
District and found that there was $45 million in reserve
funds just sitting around earning interest. I believe this
money could have been put to use to stop teacher lay-offs
and increase salaries.
I am disappointed in the priorities of the School Board if
this information proves to be true. I am running for Mayor
of Andover because I want the voters to have a say in how
our taxes are spent. I also believe that the AHSD should
finalize a contract with their teachers to provide
respectable wages and benefits. Teachers are the front-
line in the future of our nation. We should respect and
compensate them as such!
Please visit my website at www.andoverpolitics.com to learn
more. I can use all the help I can get.
Also, please trust that everything on my website is
absolutely true. I can provide copies of internal
documents from the City of Andover upon request.
Thanks,
Chris
