Moving to NC is one of the biggest mistakes...
I see it every year.. Young bright teachers and transplants move here and get crushed. I moved here after 5 years in another state and couldn't believe how bad it is here. Every year it only gets worse.. All we can do is warn other teachers not to come here and leave. This state is a joke...

This is pretty horrible, but it doesn't reflect reality in my district. Are you in a low performing district? Or one with significant problems?

Even in NC most 2nd graders have some reading skills.
The rest is pretty par for the course in NC.
