Re: I just attended NE state reading convention!![]()

I passed under it both ways to and from Lincoln but, no I did
not. You see, I was so captured by your dinner speaker, an
illustrator who once won the Caldecott that I was late getting
to my plane in Lincoln. In fact, I got lost in Lincoln. So I
had to rebook on another airlines to get home to Reno. I meant
to; I wanted to but I was captured by your reading conference
in the best way possible.
I was told by many a teacher to visit it, that it was a must-
see. It is another reason to come back to NE for me, at least.
Something I must say to every teacher in NE so I start with
you: I know that you have a lower pay scale than other states
and I know your governor is nuts to allow this, but, you have a
State Reading Organization, freedom to teach, and real
communication going on between teachers. You can't buy that or
pay for that. You guys have something I have not seen in
California, Nevada, or South Dakota--where I have been talking
my talk. I tell you this because as soon as I got home I
emailed the local Superintendent to tell him all about NE.
And, the friendliness and concern of NE for me, the outsider,
was outstanding. I so appreciated that--I know what the
opposite feels like from other states.
I hope you know how very lucky you are in NE. gh
