I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner. I don't come
to this board very often and just now saw your response.
We had a higher percentage of student fail the assessment this
year compared to last year. We do have a higher percentage of
special education students this year compared to last year, but
we also kept copies of all the written work submitted by the
students and we were very surprised at some of the scores
received by our higher ability students. I have a teacher in
my school who was a rater for the last two years and has
significant training in 6 traits writing. She felt that the
raters were much better trained this year than last year. That
may explain the tougher scoring. I have spoken to several
administrators who said that their scores were much lower this
year. I do know that it doesn't really do any good to compare
students to other students - the scores are derived from a
rubric; not comparison or rating in any specific order.
I hope that helps.
