It is my opinion that a standardized test should be standardized; not leaving room for a subjective scorer for the majority of the test (about 50% is subjective scoring.) A colleague of mine goes to item review workshops every year and the stories she tells of discrepancies in scoring are horrifying. I taught in TX for 15 years and then moved to NM. Texas has a good test and great standards in the TAKS/TEKS. NM needs to peek at their neighbors in order to get out of the ditch they are in, IMHO!
