    Re: Substitute Teachers need more respect from faculty
    Posted by Lisa on 9/07/08

    We are called substitutes because we take over classes for
    teachers who need to be gone. It is their responsibility to
    leave complete instructions that include lesson plans, the
    names of both helpful and problems students, a seating chart
    and any special information or rules we might need to know.
    If another teacher comes into a room where you are teaching
    you have every right to ask them to step into the hallway to
    speak to you. If they refuse, go to an administrator after
    class and ask for advice.
    Luckily I work in a district where Subs can join the union.
    That gives us a lot of protection and backup.
    Most substitutes are fully credentialed teachers with the
    same requirements and education as regular teachers.
    They deserve respect.
