Where do you currently live and teach? I moved to MA 2 years ago to
get my graduate degree and license (changed careers from a corporate
one)and planned to return to the bay area (San Jose, CA)next fall.
I've since changed my mind, partially due to cost of living, but to
be honest, they pay very well there. The typical starting salary I
found there (with a master's) was about $58k. It's not much when
you consider a starter home costs upward of $500k, but the state and
the cities offer so many incentives, including deferred loans toward
downpayments, that I could have actually purchased a new condo.
It's far from family though...here in MA in my current district (I'm
a TA at the moment, getting license in June) I could start at about
$43k. Boston Public Schools start at $50k. I'm Sped so hope to get
a stipend but only some districts offer them. I'm bummed about NM
but am thinking Las Vegas now...they pay ok, and are constantly
recruiting. Cost of living is low as well.
Good luck in your search!
