Hi all,

I'm currently at a university in Illinois pursuing a Biology major with a secondary education minor, complete with and Illinois State Teaching License. However, I want to teach in NM. My question:

What would I do first in order to get a job? Would I apply for a NM teaching certificate through the reciprocity path and then start applying for jobs, or should I find a job first and then get the license? If I applied for the certification first, how long does it usually take?

My only other question is what tips you all have for finding a job from another state. I'm not sure I'll have the funds to really support myself for 6 months or however it takes to find a job, so how hard is it to get a teaching job in NM through internet/phone/interview trips?

Thanks!
from NM I moved from NM a year ago, but I'm pretty sure they can't hire you w/out the license. I would check the website... okay I checked for you...

Nathaniel Thanks, that clears a few things up. I'll have to check into exactly how many of the NM exams I need to take. I think some, like Content and Basic Skills, might transfer between states, but I would have to check. Anyways, thanks a lot for the response!
