Is it true that the majority of the teacher's salary is paid through local funds? If so, do you think that someone with a higher degree and more experience could be passed over for someone with a lower degree and no experience? Does that really happen?

just wondering So....should I find another career? It saddens me to think that I am no longer valuable when I have worked hard and continue to work hard to keep myself up to date with the latest and greatest trends and happy to do it? Missing Ohio Not sure if you would want the State controlling teacher salary.

Just some of my thoughts.

Here in NC teacher salary is controlled by the state. For example in May the State needed to take the state budget out of the red, so they made a pay cut to the state employees (teachers are state employees). It wasn't just a cut for a paych...See More

Just wondering Kind of ironic that you are missing Ohio and that is exactly where I am living. I found out that the district hired two first year teachers for the about the same it would have cost to hire me-a teacher with ten years of experience and a master's degree. I lived in a southern state before moving here and in that state the teachers have received pay...See More

just wondering I am in area about an hour west of Cleveland. The district is small so your chances of finding a job might improve if you are looking at a bigger district. Even though the funding for education here is so messed up that the local districts are having a hard time passing levies. The other choice is to have open enrollment to raise money which tends ...See More
