Becoming highly qualified in math or science (biology and
chemistry particularly) up to the secondary level seems to
be the ticket to a teaching job these days, but even that
won't guarantee you a job in Oregon. I will be trying to
get a placement in Bend, OR next year, but I think I'll have
to do a lot of subbing first. Currently I teach math in Las
Vegas, and would need to get my masters before pursuing
opportunities in Oregon, but I think I'll sub first to make
sure I want to spend the bucks.
Meanwhile, contact the school districts and find out what
areas they are short on or what they feel they will need in
a year or two. That will give you a much better idea. Good
luck.
