I had an Oregon license, but ended up taking a job out of state. If you are
interested in Oregon, steer clear of the Portland Public School District. The suburb
schools might be ok, but I don't know if they fund art teachers - that probably
varies by school districts. There is an Oregon job fair in Portland every year. You
might want to check into that.
As per wages and working conditions, I think they are similar all over. I live month
to month on my salary. My school is about 40 years old, with few renovations. We
are so far behind in technology, yet our kids are going to need this education for
their futures. The expectations for teachers keep getting higher. We work long
hours. Many kids don't respect their teachers, which makes our job even harder
and more frustrating. Our class sizes are way too large. I know a lot of teachers
are on depression meds. Until we have a massive teacher shortage in this country,
I don't think there is going to be much change. I never expected to get rich, but I
thought I would have a mid class lifestyle.
