    Right now there are lots of teachers retiring but budget
    problems are rearing in many if not most communities. How
    many retiring teachers will be replaced remains to be seen.
    Some communities will hire starting now but many more will be
    doing their hiring in the weeks preceding school starts (mid
    to late August).

    Going the traditional certification route is no guarantee you
    will be hired either. In fact, in the current climate, the
    teaching fellow is seen as the stronger candidate. Teaching
    fellows are viewed by many school committees as bringing new
    insights to the school department.
