Post: FREE learning resource available from Peace One Day
    Posted by: Clare on 8/17/09

A brand new FREE digital education resource, recommended for
teachers of grades 6 – 12 in the US, has recently been
launched in association with Scholastic. The resource can be
    previewed at
    http://content.yudu.com/A17q9f/podusaedresourceprev/resources/index.htm?referrerUrl=

The resource provides 19 lesson plans and 26 classroom
activities for exploring issues of peace, nonviolence, and
the protection of the environment. The free resource,
created by UK non-profit organization Peace One Day, aims to
further learning in the areas of conflict resolution,
global citizenship, human rights and the link between
sustainability and peace, using the UN International Day of
Peace 21 September as a focus. The resources are linked to
the documentary film The Day After Peace, which charts
Jeremy Gilley’s (founder of Peace One Day and director of
the film) journey to establish the first annual day of
    global ceasefire.

Each lesson plan refers to National standards and fit well
within the frameworks of History/Social Studies, Civics and
    Government Studies, English/Language Arts, Environmental
Science and more. To find out more about the educational
resource and to show your students what young people can do
    tomake peace, please go to:
    http://www.scholastic.com/peaceoneday/ to view the webcast
that was held in New York. You can see some of USA
testimonials for the resource on the website
http://education.peaceoneday.org as well as register to
    access the free resource.
