I spoke to Jenna on Friday. The back pay ONLY applies to those
who started in 2007 and 2008. Those who began in 2009 and just
certified will get payment starting July 2011 with no back pay
for the current school year. This means you have to teach for 11
years to get 10 years of stipends - OR - if it's pulled from the
budget completely, you will never get your full amount.
The wording of the proviso contradicts itself - the payment
starts in 2011 but is also supposed to run for the life of the
certificate. The only way for that to happen is to receive back
pay for the current year. We are trying to decide if it's worth
fighting, and how best to fight for the back pay. I'm open to
suggestions.
And of course, still no word from our District about the back
pay question. They didn't tell us about the back pay issue when
teachers applied in 2009, so I don't know why I'm surprised that
they haven't told us anything now.
