Re: Subbing in the NOVA/DC area.... can I survive?

1. Many districts are not taking new subs as they literally
have thousands of people on their sub rolls due the economic
situation.
2. In VA, depending on the district, all you need to sub is a
high school diploma. This swells the sub rolls as well.
3. The pay in Prince William County was 90/day with a degree,
less in counties south away from DC. It is impossible to sub
in Stafford, I think I was told they have 700 subs on the
books.
4. I tried to sub from Jan of this year until now, I got a
total of about 15 days and I am a Virginia certified
Math/Science/English teacher.
5. Bottom line, I wouldn't count on subbing to pay the bills.
It is a good way to learn about different individual school
and/or districts. I was personally so disappointed with
Prince William that I have accepted a Math teaching position
in another state for the upcoming year.
6. Of course if you know someone, I would assume you could
work every day.
7. Good luck, you picked a tough time to break into sub work
in NOVA.
