May 13 == pink slips are due to Washington teachers by this Friday, May
15. It's the worst "reduction in force (RIF)" situation I've witnessed
in my 32 years of teaching. The legislature has cut funds to education,
reduced teacher pay, increased class sizes to at least 30 - 35 kids per
classroom, and they suspended two voter-approved initiatives that were
supposed to guarantee cost of living pay increases and protect class
size. This is not a good time to find a teaching job in Washington!
I assume the "RIF'd" teachers will take any substituting jobs that come
up next year. It's a mess!
