Parent Accountability
I agree with George. If the kid doesn't make the grade because he's not doing his job, by all means do not promote him. But change the system so that the school district can charge the parents for the kids' second year in a grade. In my district, it costs taxpayers approximately $7000 per student per year. Incentives for families of successful students is a great idea too. It rewards competence and effort. Also-- kids under 18 who are either not enrolled in high school and passing, or do not have a diploma don't get a drivers' license.
