Some parents have also over done it with
some of their kids. We kids who come to
school who didn't have time to do their
homework because they had baseball
practice, violin lessons and volunteering
at the local shelter to attend to. We have
parents who have so oversaturated their
kids with activities that homework, much
less studying, has taken a backseat. They
come to school exhausted due to going to
bed late because they have tried to do
their homework after all of these
activities. These parents believe that
these activities are just as important as
school sometimes.

These parents need to reexamine priorities
their children have. Socialization and
activities that teach the arts, that teach
responsibilities as well as exercise are
all very noble, but if schools takes a back
seat to these items, that is when the kids
get the mixed message of the importance of
a good education. That message is usually
that mom and dad thinks its better that I
play first base rather than learn
fractions, for example.

We just can't look at the economically
depressed families anymore for the reason
of low test scores. Its also the
overachievers or should I say overworked
kids.
