Hello everyone, can any European teachers who have moved to NYC tell me how they went about getting their diplomas recognized? I would like to start the procedure from home before going to New York. How much did it cost? How long did it take? Did you find a position with a school before moving to the US? thanks a lot.
In a weekend of looking for work skirts, it seems that thigh and butt high is about all that's available! Even on LL Bean, Old Navy, Ann Taylor, etc. Where do women in their fifties buy decent clothes? I don't like animal prints, bold stripes, weird prints in garish colors...clothes that I can mix and match, and wear forever...too much to ask for? :) I have written to three clothing stores to let them know that older women seem to be over looked...

Outside of the normal answers of family, dinner, what is it about Christmas you like.
Is your tradition to open presents on Christmas Eve or morning?
At what age or what reason did you have the Santa is not a "real person" discussion with your children?
Are you doing anything different this year than past years? Maybe as you get older, handing down of traditions or something? Just tossing the old and going to new?
If you could choose to spend Christmas at any location for just this one time, without any of the normal obstructions (ie money, family) in your life where would it be? Ski resort, beach, cruise? what ever you dream of.
What is your favorite giving thing or what cool thing does someone you know do for someone less fortunate at Christmas?

Gosh, I have so many favorites. But probably "O Holy Night" is one of them, as are all 3 versions of "Away in a Manger".

The celebration of the birth of Jesus.

Morning.

Age 8, or whenever they started poking me about it a lot. In my K-1 combo, no one questioned it this year, though they have in past years.

For the first time, this year, we left home for Christmas and are spending it in Missouri with our daughter and her family.

What I am doing now: spending it in Missouri with my oldest daughter and her family.

We usually do Operation: Christmas Child, though we did not do so this year.
Sometimes I think the ...See MoreIf I know what yours is I will offer you that greeting. If I am unsure but pretty sure you might not be Christian I will say Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to others.
You can say whatever you wish to me and I will appreciate the the greeting. I am one to pay attention to intention over actual verbiage.
Sometimes I think the media makes an issue of things then people buy into it. I think we should all just be grateful people are trying to kindly acknowledge the time of year and are including you.
But there are those that just like to see the world burn or as Wayne Dyer put it, come get up in the morning looking for ways to be offended.

Definitely! I say "Merry Christmas" to people I know celebrate it. More often at work I will say "have a good vacation and enjoy the time with your family" or something along those lines. On cards I tend to write "have a happy holiday season", not because I"m avoiding anything, just because those words seem to encompass a longer period of time and it seems like a nice thing to wish someone (that the whole season be happy), rather than focusing on a single day which they may or may not even celebrate. No matter what I say, I usually get a cheerful "you too!" in response. No, not everyone celebrates the same holidays (and some people don't have any holidays this time of year, so even "happy holidays" doesn't literally cover everyone), but no one has ever seemed insulted or upset by what I say, and I've never felt that way about anything that's been said to me. Incidentally I think it's pretty cool that Hanukkah begins on the evening of the 24th this year; Christmas and Hanukkah really do fall at the same time for once. Often they are several weeks apart. My extended family is a mix of Christian, Jewish and Buddhist, and we usually have a "Christmas gathering" potluck together (very similar to the one we have for Thanksgiving), we always say grace together before the meal and so on, and it's not an issue for any of us. The line "you can't even say Merry Christmas anymore" drives me crazy (much more so than any type of greetings anyone has wished me) because I've NEVER heard that from anyone other than media and politicians.
Judy. I laughed and laughed at your last sentence: "Then I ran out of gas." I so identify.
10177 steps today. Whew! No sunshine, but little ice under foot, so it felt pretty safe. After being cooped up in the house, I'm loving the freedom of walking outside again. Today I walked alone. Podcasts in my ears, I sailed along.
Shopping is finished and will just enjoy the visiting. We will have 16 eating and opening presents Christmas morning!
Now to go back and catch up on Roll Call reporting! ((((ROLL CALL Participants))))
