Hello,

First off I would like to thank all the teachers here who have dedicated their careers to educating children. My mother in-law and sister in-law are both teachers as well.

The reason I am posting here is to get feedback on a specific issue we are facing as parents of a second grader and as we are directly involved sometimes it can be difficult to be clear minded when making decisions.

Can you weigh in on the following method and let us know if you think it's appropriate and if not how you would recommend we deal with it.

Recently while doing homework with our son I told him to leave an answer blank as he did not know the answer and to ask his teacher tomorrow. He got very nervous about this and informed me he did not want to do this as he would be put in the hall for not completing his work and would have to finish it there. After some further questioning and prodding we found out this is standard practice of his teacher. If someone does not...See More

my thoughts For one, I am surprised that students are allowed to be out in the hall unsupervised. Is this even allowed in the school? I think I would start with the teacher and tell her that you feel it is a safety issue to have your son in the hall unsupervised and ask that she no longer do that. See what she responds with. If she says she doesn't see anythin...See More

#Ireadtoofast Anytime a student misses class time, they are missing out
on vital learning opportunities (both academically and
socially.) Sending a student out of the room to finish
work is not appropriate at any grade, let alone in the
primary grades.

I would talk to the teacher before going to
administration.
