How do you handle this problem? The assistant admitted to dictating to the student what to write for his essay. She is saying she didn't "write" the essay for him, since he physically wrote the essay.

The English teacher noticed that this wasn't the style or quality of the student's normal writing.

The assistant's comment to me "Well, what am I supposed to do? These students just are so lost and I am supposed to be helping them write a paper. How else are they going to pass their classes and graduate?"

These are high school special ed. students and they are having their papers written for them!
haha It can be hard deciding where to draw the line when offering support. Obviously just dictating a whole paper is way over that line. I have offered ideas for catchy ways to start a paper (statistics, quotes, etc.) and/or solid thesis statements. PWN teacher Thanks, Haha. What you have told me is exactly what I have told my own educational assistant. I carefully monitor (as I am supposed to) when my assistant is working with students so I know exactly how they are instructing the student.
