Our school has started the SFA reading program this year. I have been searching teachers.net trying to find a chatboard pertaining to SFA. Does anyone know where I can find a blog or chatboard with questions and answers pertaining to SFA.

I want to start the four blocks in my first grade classroom, but I am worried about having enough materials for the guided reading block. We do not have multiple copies of many resources. What do you all use for your guided reading? I may be overlooking some valuable resources that we already have in our classroom. Thank you for your help!
D We use the levelled books from the website "Reading A- Z.com". You can just download them, print, cut and staple to make enough books for each group. The subscription is about $85.00 but teh school pays for it. They also have benchmark books for you to do running records. Weel worth it!! -Di

Hi, I am having a smartboard installed in my classroom. Does anyone know of any smartboard lessons that have been created using one of the 4Block activities? Thanks, Alta

    Hi,

I'm thinking of running an after-school reading enrichment program and I'm wondering if I could adapt the the 4 Blocks method to plan the curriculum. I would probably have 45 minutes once a week with a small group of students. I thought maybe for the self-selected reading block I could bring them a selection of books they could borrow ...See More

teach4 I do, I look it as an additional and as a check in after they have finished a book as a self-selected reader.

I teach in California and I've been hearing a lot about all the progress New York schools are making with impoverished and/or second language learners. Our district uses Open Court which does not seem to work with all students.

Are there any NY teachers who would be willing to share what type of reading program is used and what a typical ...See More
I have just survived 3 years of intense "Reading First" and, although I learned some valuable info., strategies, and tools, it was difficult to use such a scripted program. We are continuing with many of the elements of RF (some good, some not-so-good) but this year, since the funds have run out it is MUCH better and we have been able to be ourselv...See More
sioux As far as I know, Race for the Top is all about increasing student achievement as well as merit pay. I think each state still develops its own plan as to how all students will be on grade level. While similar to NCLB, they broaden the scope to include stakeholders and other areas. For the first round, only 2 of the approximately 40 state applicatio...See More
