I need some help. Our school district uses 4 blocks. I do literacy centers in my classroom each day. We are required to have 1 hr of centers and 30 mins of whole group instruction for a total of 90 minutes uided reading. We also need 20 mins SSR/30 min word block and 45min-1hr of writing block. Our calendar and math block is 90 mis and with specials(20 min) and lunch.recess (45min) Im having a very difficult time scheduling. I have 4 reading groups that I meet with everyday. I read with 2 groups for 30 mins and a push in teacher reads with 2 roups for 30 mins. While we ar emeeting the kids in the other 2 groups do 2 center activities for 15 mins each. (Sounds confusing but it works). My problem is not knowing where to implement SSR and Word block. Does anyone know of ways to implement it into the guided reading block? Any suggestions??

sla I guess I'm confused, too. Does your school mandate that you do centers? If not, drop them and follow the 4-Blocks framework. This way you'll have more direct contact with the students (which I can't imagine an administrator having trouble with). On the other hand, if the centers are meant to keep kids busy while you meet with small groups, you mig...See More
