I have just survived 3 years of intense "Reading First" and, although I learned some valuable info., strategies, and tools, it was difficult to use such a scripted program. We are continuing with many of the elements of RF (some good, some not-so-good) but this year, since the funds have run out it is MUCH better and we have been able to be ourselves a little more without RF breathing down our necks so much. Now, however, I hear that our state (AZ) and our school district will probably be applying for the Race to the Top grant/funds. Can anyone tell me how similar or different this will be from RF? I know it will entail a lot more accountability and that's ok with me, but I would like to have a little more lee-way in the classroom and in my teaching style than I did with RF. Any info. on this from the educators out there?
sioux As far as I know, Race for the Top is all about increasing student achievement as well as merit pay. I think each state still develops its own plan as to how all students will be on grade level. While similar to NCLB, they broaden the scope to include stakeholders and other areas.
