After spending considerable time during the last year learning about and being trained in the Common Core State Standards this veteran 1st grade teacher is enthusiastically planning to implement a full Four Blocks reading program during the 2012/2013 school year!

Returning to a program that works and is not only effective but fun for both the teacher and the students is a win-win situation! The CCSS emphasizes balance between fiction/nonfiction, just like the Four Blocks. There are so many parallels between Four Blocks and the CCSS that I feel like I'm coming home. Emphasis on reading aloud, multiple reading of a text with different purposes, writing in response to reading, comprehension built through debate and discussion, multileveled differentiation, the list goes on and on.

I will incorporate the best of what I've done with Reading and Writing Workshop into my Self-Selected Reading and Writing Blocks. I will utilize the best of what I've learned from The Daily 5...See More
