Both are the same. 6 Traits came first, out of NWREL. The 6trait is conventions. This trait was divided up intoC onventions (spelling, grammar, mechanics) and Presentation (visual conventions which include font, spacing, margins, white space). Presentation is the +1.

Go to the six trait section for tons of free lessons and resources.

The six traits workshops are too lengthy and somewhat boring. Some of the stuff could be condensed and could be presented with less literary samples.

Does anyone know of any 6 Traits training in Texas or even Oklahoma/Louisiana/Arkansas area this summer? The focus would be middle school and up. Thanks for checking.
Has anyone else tried this software? It takes kids through the writing process using the 6 traits. I have heard they are giving away free subscriptions this summer.
Does anyone have an example of an A paper in all areas of writing. I would like to compare my students' writing to other 5th graders out there in different states/districts.

So where is their site? Are 6 Traits and 6+1Trait the same thing or not? What does the +1 stand for??
The school where I work as a learning specialist uses the 6 traits method for teaching writing in the mainstream classrooms. Does this method work in resource rooms as well where the children tend to need more scaffolding and more prompting to remain on task? Does anyone have any suggetsions on how to implement this strategy in resource centers? Jackie A
We use the lessons and ideas of author imitatation set forth in the "Literature Based Writing" book by Bruce Hansen. He shows how students can imitate certain aspects of an author's writing. This gives students enough support to be successful in or out of the resource room.
I think we bought our books from amazon.com or mthoodpress.com.

I am a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. I am currently researching a film topic that would explore the issue of racial segregation and educational inequities in today's public school system. I am currently looking for the right vehicle to tell this timely story and would like to hear from educators about their thoughts, opinions and experiences. If this is something you would like to discuss or would like to point me in a helpful direction, please contact me via email at [email removed].
Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from you.
First, I think to attract educators to your project you need to correct the grammatical error in your subject line: the verb should be "needs," not need.
Yet ANOTHER person trying to find all the negative things going on in schools!!!! I can tell you right now that most teachers are color blind. If you were to ask me how many hispanics are in my classroom. Not only could I not tell you because there are many, but I forget they are hispanic. Now, before someone comes back saying, "Shame on you for forgetting and you need to remember and teach to their background." Most teachers feel this way. We teach what we are given. We don't chose who are what race is in our classrooms or how many we get. On 7/02/07, Coll Metcalfe wrote: > I am a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Last year was my first year being a writing teacher in 4th grade for rotations. I decided to use rubrics for assessment but sometimes graded using percentages. I learned about rubrics about 6 years ago in college and have many examples. What I am wondering is should I be using the points to grade every trait depending on the rubric or do you use the point system as one grade. For example, if a student meets all the requirements, he gets a 4/4? I was grading each trait out of 4 points, is the correct? Grading writing is a lot harder than I imagined. Also, if you have any short-cuts to grading writing, please let me know. Greatly appreciated!
Here are some links that might help you - I know they did me. Sorry I don't know how to put more than 1 link in so figured it was easier to post and have you copy and paste.
Our school is going to focus on 6 trait writing this year. I've never taken this approach to writing. I need to find some good info. or lesson plans on the traits. Thanks!
