6th grade teacher
I read "Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie" to my 6th graders at the end of the year. They loved it! Be sure to read it first; it is excellent (happy, sad, teenage angst), but can be sensitive if it hits home with any of the children. Good luck with the new job.

Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman is a great book about community and working together. I always read it with my sixth graders the first month of school and would be great for 7th as well.
