I am curious to know what type of graduate degree do most current teachers of ASL hold? I have been trying to find a masters degree in teaching foreign language specific to ASL (other than the Columbia program). I have also been looking for general programs in foreign language study where I can apply what I already know in ASL to the pedagogy of teaching a foreign language. TIA for your help.

AB One of my dear friends, (who is an ASL teacher with a veritable alphabet soup of certifications behind her name) has her Masters in Special Ed from Ball State University and is working on her Doctorate in the same field, with an emphasis on curriculum development. Her undergrad degree is in Deaf Ed.

nigel to teach ASL, you must have either ASL Studies, Deaf Education, or Linguistics (in ASL study)degree.

Special education doesn't count UNLESS you MUST be aware the Deaf culture.

hope that helps..
