I'm halfway through a Master's program and ESL endorsement, so definitely adding to my qualifications! I just got information about national board certification. Does this change anything for the positive as far as my application is concerned?
hahaIt doesn't seem to be a huge deal with DoDEA. If you do get certified, include it in your applications somewhere. You never know if a particular principal has some background with national board certification and might value it in a candidate.
What is the tentative timeline to receive an official offer, complete the background check, additional paperwork and actually move to Korea from a stateside location?
I would think it could take a few months, especially with the background check being new to the DODEA system.
hahaWelcome aboard! If it is anything like the timeline for teachers then it could range from weeks to months, with around 5 weeks (+/-) being fairly typical.
So, I had an interview about four weeks ago, and I felt really good about it. However, there's been nothing but crickets since then. Is it safe to assume someone else got an offer? What's the usual timeline?
LolaTeachWhen I was interviewed 2 years ago, I received my tentative offer within a few hours of my interview. It was on July 1st and they were in a rush to get classrooms filled.
DoDEA has SPED ISS (Instructional Systems Specialist) positions at the District level who provide overview/support for SPED teachers, administrators, specialists, etc. You would generally apply through USA Jobs.
Some schools have assistant principals who oversee/work more closely with the the SPED Dept. Again, you would generally apply for leadership positions through USA Jobs.
Each school has a SPED Dept. Chair who oversees the program and advises the school admin and other SPED teachers. These are Extra Duty Compensation positions and are open to current DoDEA teacher/specialists.
There might be some other above school level/HQ positions that are not on my radar and would usually be on USA Jobs when they are open.
Well, just yesterday ...See MoreJust so everyone knows: I was unsure if you had to update your files every year...and our wonderful moderators here were a little unsure as well...BUT BE UNSURE NO MORE!
I got zero referrals this past summer until I re-uploaded my files in mid-AUGUST. Immediately I got a referral the next day (for part-time).
Well, just yesterday I received confirmation that there were multiple openings in my field this past summer. (I saw multiple colleagues on Facebook at their new DOD jobs...)
So UPDATE YOUR FILES EVERY YEAR!
I hate that I was effectively sitting out the hiring process this past summer, while thinking that I was ready to go and hoping and preparing for interviews!
submanMary is correct you do have to change the School Year date each year and you have to click on each section to make sure everything is up to date. But you do not have to re upload your information.
spedhopeful@HaHa, not tentative as of yet, thanks for asking. I received an email about my licence have since sent an updated copy to HR. Now I've gone back to waiting, being optimistic and preparing my life for this new journey.
Hi, my husband and I are set to PCS to Deagu, South Korea in April of 2020. I am really hoping to teach while we are there for 3 years. Does anyone know of any elementary teaching positions that will be opening for the upcoming school year 2020-2021? I am certified K-6. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Snow LaneI agree with Rj about putting in your sub application ASAP as well. It shows a willingness to work and do whatever, which can help you land an interview at least. It also gives the principal an idea of the type of teacher you might be through your subbing practices.
