Hello all! I finalized my application to teach with the DOD earlier this month. I applied for Virtual School (qual pending), Middle School English (Qualified) and just recently Secondary English (qual pending).
Do you know how to tell if you are on any referral lists? I applied to locations stateside and overseas.
Hello! I have an interview tomorrow with a school at Ft. Benning. I've researched the school and feel pretty prepared for the interview. Any advice and/or other questions I might be asked.....any help to get me ready for tomorrow would be greatly appreciated!!
Michelle ZimmermanKarin, I thought it went good. I do know it's for a 5th grade position and they do have 3 openings available. I hope I hear something back in the next few weeks. I would love to work for DODEA!!!
Does anyone know when external applicants can begin applying for the 2020-21 school year?
What is the likelihood of being called in to interview for the current 2019-20 school year? Does re-uploading your docs for your DODEA application make you more visible to those seeking to fill positions?
Impossible to predict the likelihood of still getting an interview for this year but people are still getting them. After the new year, the chance goes down because many principals will just try to make do with a sub until the end of the year. Even then, some hires still happen because some principals want to get the person hired and in place so they know for certain they will be there for the start of the new school year.
I have no idea if the re-loading docs, making changes to your EAS, etc. helps. Some people think so and at worst I don't see how it could hurt.
Was wondering if anyone recently interviewed for a SPED position can give me some ideas of what questions they may ask? I am familiar with the general educations questions, was looking for something more centered around learning support. Thanks
I currently live overseas in Korea and have a masters degree in middle childhood education and an expired teaching license (expired in 2015.) I've been teaching ESL classes over here for a few years and am committed to staying in Korea for a long time. I was considering renewing my teaching license and applying for a DoDEA teaching position in Korea; the only issue is I have to take 6 credit hours of continued education to renew my license with the Ohio department of education. From browsing the cost based on classes offered this could cost me a bit of money; so before I took the plunge I was hoping to get a general idea on the chances of getting an interview/job offer for a position when it would essentially be my first teaching position outside of student teaching when I was getting my license.
hahaWell, it was two years until you were eligible for the transfer round, when there was one (but no guarantee of an actual transfer). Currently there is no transfer round, but hope springs eternal.
Snow LaneI was at an open town hall with atom Brady and someone asked him point blank if the transfer round was returning this year. He said yes, but that it would look different. I took that to be a good sign that there should be one this year, but who know what he really meant by different.
I've submitted my application with the DODEA. I'm certified in South Carolina to teach middle school social studies and secondary history. I saw on my qualifications that I'm only qualified for middle school social studies and I'm not qualified for secondary social studies unless I take an approved political science and physical geography course.
Does this mean that I won't be considered at all for a secondary social studies position?
(I've been teaching secondary social studies for 6 years. I'm also AP certified in European History and Human Geography).
Also, would it be appropriate to email my resume to principals in schools that I'm interested in working for? I don't want to overstep my boundaries, but some counties that I've worked for expected applicants to reach out to principals as well as use the online application system.
Just MeI don't believe emailing the principals will do you any good. They only look at applicants who are placed on a referral list and then sent to them by HR. Once you are placed on a referral list you may reach out to that particular principal. There are different opinions on whether or not it will help/hinder you in getting an interview.
IdaYes, you will not be considered for secondary positions if you are not considered qualified. Dodea cares more about college credits for certification so there specific classes you have to take. Being state certified reduces the number you need but not the specific classes.
