Starting to update application for 20-21 school year. In checking my application, I notice my transcripts say "tran[Invalid]." Does anyone know what this means? I requested official transcripts and then scanned and combined them into a single pdf file. Is this something to call human resources about?
On the page you have to click okay on before you can get into your application, it says " In an effort to mitigate Cross Site Scripting(XSS) attacks, all data entered into the application will be scanned. Any word or combination of words that constitute an XSS attack will be replaced by the text '[INVALID]'. See the OWASP website for details."
So for some reason, the system picks up the word "scripts" as XSS attack.
You would not likely qualify for LQA but would likely get Post Allowance which would be an additional tax free amount that ranges from $150-$600 per paycheck, depending on location, family size, etc.
You would pay no local taxes but would be subject to US income taxes (which will obviously vary). Health insurance will also vary by family size. Family of 3 runs around $160 per paycheck for high coverage. The gov't will match up to 5% of your own contributions towards your Thrift Savings Plan. Union dues run around $800 a year.
So, a lot of variables. I'm on a slightly higher step, with a Masters. My gross salary is around $3K per paycheck, my deductions (with a family of 3) are around $1K, and I get an additional $300+ tax free on top of that per paycheck for post allowance. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, getting something wrong or otherwise misleading you, but that is a rough idea.
It's hard to compare with your current job as int'l schools also vary wildly. We taught int'l before getting into DoDEA so have some idea of the differences (in general). You would pay US taxes with no foreign income exclusion (but no local taxes). You would pay SS but would also be paying into SS and building up a benefit (such as it is). Retirement/pension is not great, not horrible with DoDEA compared to US states/districts. You would also have SS and your TSP money. All of which is generally better than most int'l schools (but not all obviously). You would go up a step every year until you hit a longevity step and the salary scale generally goes up every year. You can also generally advance a salary lane by adding additional credits.
You would be working on a US military base and teaching primarily children of military personnel. This has it's advantages and disadvantages. Schools, admin, locations etc. vary wildly. It is nice to have access to base facilities (shopping, library, gym, swimming pool, clinic, etc.) without having a language barrier and also have the option to do many things on the economy.
Depending on whether they bring back a transfer round (rumored to be happening this year) you could also potentially pick up full benefits (LQA and travel) at some point which would obviously change the picture significantly.
In general, it's a great gig for many people (but not for everyone) and work life balance, working environment, etc. compare favorably to many int'l schools, but obviously not all.

I know I'm qualified for the pending one—they just forgot to change it when I emailed last year but they fixed the other pending certs.
Since then, I've earned a Masters in my content area and I wondered if it would exempt me from some of the classes they say I need when I was denied other certs. Those were Drama and Journalism. I'm not state certified in them and they said I needed one-two classes extra to be qualified.
Because I now have a Masters in English, does this help? Should I get state certified first and then re-trigger it? Or just trigger it and see what happens? I have to email them anyway bc each time I've triggered a cert for the past year and they've approved it, they've never went back and approved the pending one :/
Also, I was emailed last week and asked to add part-time to my application and a school that wasn't on my list so they could pull my app for an interview. I didn't do it nor did I respond bc I'm not interested in part time. Is that normal to email about a job type you don't have marked on your app?
I think getting a secondary position is no harder than any other position with DoDEA and might be easier than many others, depending on the certification areas required. There are fewer openings every year for any given secondary position than for elementary positions but there are probably fewer candidates for each secondary position (and many ES positions seem to go to local hires compared to secondary positions).
It seems very odd to me that the MS English is pending when the Secondary English position has more requirements and has been approved.
Other than that, it seems that you have/are getting a nice mix of certs. Keep at it and hang in there!
LoveteachingHard to say... I heard that there are situations where the person selected ends up refusing the job or not having good enough references and then they go down the list to the next candidate. So you could esitbsnmobth or two before they contact you. Don't lose hope and be patient
Also, do they need to come from principals and such or is any admin ...See MoreAre the 3 - 4 sent in recommendations viewable somehow? Will HR tell me if they are all good or not? See, I've got one administrator that is a real sweetheart and professional some days while other days is a crazy loon capable of the worst sort of behavior...What to do??
Also, do they need to come from principals and such or is any admin we work with permitted to send one in- councilor for instance?
I had a principal tell me that she was going to request my referencesYesterday or today, but I talk to my supervisor and they said they never received the request. Is it possible that after she interviewed the other candidates she changed her mind on requesting my references or should I wait a few more days before I give up?
ImatriculatealotI got an email asking if I was interested in an interview for the position. I was then given a number to call, and she gave me times and dates to choose from.
spedhopeful@Elemteach I just received an referral a week ago for a shool stateside, 10 to date but no interviews. No freeze account nor an email stating I was not selected. I also chalked it up to the possibilty that the hiring season for this school year is done!
sillyrabbitI keep receiving referrals too, which is a start but no interview. In my district teachers have to give a 60-day notice, anything less then you'll have to wait two years for rehire. I would never go back anyway. It's the worst school district I've ever worked with. You live and you learn.
I'm looking for an online program that is bare-bones, regionally accredited, accepted by DODEA, and allows me to finish in a year without overwhelming me while I teach, coach, and maintain a young family. Any suggestions?
JackThe subject area would most likely be SPED of sorts...I've seen some programs are 30 credit hrs without leading to certification. I have all that, just looking to jump into that higher pay grade for doing the same work.
hahaI did one through Grand Canyon University for teachers who were already certified. It took me less than two years, but more than one. Probably more than you want or need (and not particularly cheap).
Is it better to stay in a hotel upon initial arrival (Air Force Inns) or a hotel in town? Wondering about ease...finding food, etc. I'm not sure what access we have to things to e need until CAC card is done, driving test, etc. any input is greatly appreciated! I would not have the understanding that I do about processes were it not for this board!
Angelaflying in Sunday and going to work on Monday! Our movers only had a 10 day turn around time, so we are not flying out until Saturday here. I'm not sure what is going on with the driving test. DG said we can take it ahead of time, but I've asked for clarification. I'll share if I get it before you leave. Safe travels and see you on Monday!
somedayYou need to have your sponsor set up an account on JKO for you and then you can take the course and test. FYI, its brutal. A 200 question practice test and then a 100 question final from what I remember.
