I followed your links Jimmy, and none of them cite your argument as to what makes DoDEA bad. All you did was send the article about what our current director did in a previous district which gives no indication of what he's doing in our organization. You sent a class action lawsuit about what was EEO that addresses issues up to 2009, a go fund me that wouldn't load for me, a book about teaching in America, and a podcast about one teacher who left DoDEA. I don't see how that highlights the negatives.
teacher42I'm guessing OP has either been very lucky in the past or has had a very limited range of teaching experiences. DoDEA is the best district I've worked in, and I've been teaching for 30 years. (Just joined DoDEA a couple years ago.)
I had an interview a week ago, and they checked my references I know. But today I received another referral. I'm wondering if I was offered a tentative offer and then had another interview which led to another offer , would I be able to change acceptance from one to another? Or would I be locked in to the first one. Thanks
Just MeI am qualified in elementary 1-5, middle school math, all grades library, compensatory math elementary, and a couple others. I have 9 qualifications in all and 3 more pending.
Snow LaneI wouldn't worry yet. I can't imagine that there are many schools with openings still that have not been filled or in the process of being filled. I'd bet get referrals in a few months as people retire.
How many credits do you need to be certified in an area in the DOD?
I have an odd situation: i gained my Virginia certification through a career switcher path in VA community college. It was for ESL and it was around 30 credits of graduate classes...but they didn't give us any credits. For passing all the classes you earned your VA ESL license.
Could i call HR and ask if they would consider my career switcher transcript (which lists all the classes we took) as proof? I also taught for 2 years as an ESL teacher.
hahaIt's generally 24/30 credits. I believe it's 24 for ESL. Generally they will want actual credits on a college transcript but definitely try calling and see what they say.
HelpOthersTalk to the person who helped with all your hiring paperwork. They should give you the information you need to sign up for benefits. Yes, it will be online, but I cannot recall whether you need to use your CAC or not.
Hi. I'm new to this forum as I'm trying to research more into the possibility of making a career move. Is there a difference in salary and benefits between being hired locally and being hired stateside? Thank you.
IslandgirlIt will be very difficult to gain benefits once the new contract is implemented. The transfer system is already bare bones. Best to get hired Stateside.

How does the time in federal service work when leaving overseas DoDEA and going to DoDEA America-Stateside? I don't want to lose my SCD or retirement. Guess I don't understand the difference between the two systems sine I have been overseas all of my career.
http://feaonline.org/media/vsipexc...See MoreFar from an expert but from what I recall hearing/reading, your SCD, retirement, etc. would all transfer over. It's probably not all applicable/accurate still but this fact sheet about excess teachers going from DoDEA to DDESS should give you some idea: I'm sure there are some similar documents out there.
HelpOthersAgree with haha. I think that information sheet is still very applicable. Stateside has a different pay scale and accepts fewer years of teaching from outside if DoDEA. However, they will count all your time overseas with DoDEA when deciding which pay scale you will be on stateside.
HelpOthersThey do not pay for your move, and can often start you with a line-of-sight background check while awaiting a full background check. So it may just be however long it takes you to get yourself moved there.
