I just accepted my firm offer yesterday. Woo hoo! What comes next? Do I wait for my orders? The email said to "schedule move appointments as soon as possible" do I do that on my own? Am I going to get more guidance?
uh89Definitely start thinking about starting your pension here stateside. That's a great point you made and I highly recommend doing that. Getting a DoDDS position these days is kind of like winning a lottery. The chances are extremely slim.
CmcIf I were staying beyond this next school year, I'd consider it. We're relocating somewhere, not sure where yet. One of the locations where hubs applied does not have DODEA schools. The universe has repeatedly shut the door on me. It's time I realize it's not going to open for me here. Maybe my door is at another location or not with DODEA at all.
I was trying to stay positive going on over 2 weeks since my interview, but realized that if an offer was coming my application would be locked. Guess there's always next year.
My school is overseas and it looks like I'm not going to make my start date of 8/19 as I still don't have my travel plans. Upon arrival, will I get a few days to settle in before I start at school?
hahaIt's up to the principal but generally yes, they will give you a few days to take care of some things and catch your breath. You would generally also then have a few admin leave days for things like when your household goods arrive, etc.
My wife interviewed for a position with an AP and the retiring principal of a school in Europe. She hasn't heard anything (replies to emails, positioned closed email, news on the grapevine, etc.) in the six weeks since. Is there a chance the incoming principal will conduct his/her own interviews or take a recommendation from their predecessor?
HelpOthersSometimes their first choice declines or backs out before the process is fished and they go to the next person on the list, which is why they don't like to tell people a position has been filled until the new person is in place.
How quickly did you receive a firm offer after receiving your tentative offer and completing the onboarding paperwork + sending in background checks? I am a local hire overseas and with school starting in 2 weeks, I'm nervous I won't be starting on time.
HelpOthersIf you have orders, you should be able to contact the travel office yourself to arrange the travel. If you live near a military facility, I would contact their travel office for help.
Does anyone know who the new or moved APs and principals are? Usually these movements and nominations/promotions are released but nothing yet especially in Europe.
IcanreadThere was a conversation on the DoDDS Facebook page. You can join the page if you are a current or former Dodds teacher. Teachers have been sharing what they know about principal and AP placements. Here in Japan we've only gotten emails about local placements so I don't know anything about Europe.
We are currently vacationing in Utah (live near Fort Bragg) and while we were in Zion NP I received a tentative offer for Fort Jackson....I feel so blessed!!! So....I had to hunt for internet service for my onboarding packet....but it's complete. Anyone in the Fort Jackson area that can tell me about schools and towns? We have 3 kiddos!
