Okay, just received a tentative offer but the salary seems low. They have me on a Step 1, Masters. I thought your teaching experience determines your steps? Anyone have any insight? Thanks ahead! I'm so excited but this is low!
IcanreadHmmm... it will be interesting to see how/where this position will be used in schools. Where was the job listing for it? USAjobs? Or were applicants pulled from EAS?
Couple of QuestionsThere is a form you will fill out and it will be adjusted. My husband's initial paperwork said the same thing, and he has a Doctorate. I think back when he was hired we even questioned it, but as I said, everything was adjusted.
Also, anyone else have done this and your spouse was unemployed? Mine has to resign his job. Telecommuting not an option. Have read conflicting info on how easy/hard it is for a spouse to find a job in Europe.
hahaMost bases will have a lemon lot and/or dealers near base. In most locations good used cars should be around the same as Japan, maybe slightly higher (but still very affordable).
...See MoreWe've been here (Italy) for 3 years and I (my husband is the teacher) have been subbing, but unable to find regular full-time employment, even for positions I'm extremely qualified for. At this point, I'm really not worried about it. We aren't suffering with me not having a full time job, I would like it more just to get out of the house.
I would definitely get a second car. As others said, most bases have a lemon lot where people pcs-ing sell their cars. We actually currently have 3.
Has anyone ever been contacted about an interview, you say you're interested, they email back that they will send you a time and date, then you never hear from them again??
If you accept a DDESS position and you are already with DODDS, does HR waive the background check since it was already done? Do you have to verify previous employment again? Just wondering if the process will be quicker.
HelpOthersTQSA starts when travel starts. It does not include hotel in current location. However, if you are already with DoDEA, that expense and pet expenses etc could be included in RITA
Hello everyone! I was trying to see if there are any autism positions available anywhere. I know Autism ISS is one option, but how does one see if an autism lead teacher position is open? Curious about both and any others that might be an option.
There are some Autism Coach positions that are at the complex or district level. Openings are sometimes posted internally for current DoDEA teachers but sometimes might be listed on USA Jobs (along with ISS positions).
How long does it take to get a Firm offer? Does that happen after your background check? Is it rare to get a tentative offer and then not a firm offer? Asking because I'm unsure when to let my school district that I will be leaving, I feel bad not giving them time to find someone to replace me.
Kmb1211My start date is the first day of school so I am not getting to do our work week, a little of a bummer but it's ok. My previous school we had 14 days from the first day of school to resign, so I put in a leap of faith and did it because I did not want to pass up on the opportunity.
HelpOthersStateside seems to go faster. They don't pay relocation and can start you with line of sight. Overseas seems to take a couple months for the background check. I would not officially resign, but maybe you can have a conversation and find a safe middle ground. Some have been long term subs until moving.
I ask because we have a trip planned mid October which costs several thousand $, and can't cancel for a refund....plus I want to go in the trip preferably anyways. Has anyone received a tentative offer around this time of year and then not made it to your destination until late October??? Can you ask HR for a certain leave date???
I...See More@Angela and @questionsallday, I've done onboarding paperwork, the e-quip, and watched a 2 hour antiterrorist video with questions/certificate as proof. Im getting the fingerprinting card today and then I'll mail it back since they wanted a hard copy and not Live scan. Nobody has mentioned passports or a physical yet for me or my family.
It's crazy to me how everyone has a different order that they're asked to do things!
@questionsallday, I would imagine your trip in August will be fine. In the very beginning I asked HR about an estimated timeline since it was already mid-July and was told it would be a minimum of 45 days, and they're trying to exposure things since they prefer people to start around the beginning of the school year. I personally already told my principal about my trip to keep him in the loop but I haven't mentioned it to HR yet.
Coming from the public sector we are paid year round....is that an option with DODEA? I'm sure I will come up with more questions. I do have a Facebook account if anyone who is on the East coast and wants to connect! Under Jodina Tyson!
It's the pay period here that is significant, not the date of the first paycheck.
New hires come on board in August or later, and miss the first payperiod. It's much easier for HR to simply put them on a 21 pay period cycle.
But the important date is in July, which is why some Ddess to Dodds hires can get a 26 pay period cycle, if they are hired before the July cut-off. That option is not available to genuine newbies.
But the pay period (which is 14 days in length) for which that paycheck is the compensation, started in July!
