This timeline was not even correct as of January 30th. Make sure you are reading the official guidance at both Iwakuni and the military facility where you would stay in Tokyo.

There should be a Covid Team at MCAS Iwakuni specifically for DoDEA. Contact your school secretary to confirm that you are following the most current protocol for your specific location. The only US Government managed hotels in the area are on MCAS Iwakuni.

Keep in contact with your principal. You go directly from Narita to one of the military installations in Tokyo (Yokota, Yokosuka, Zama-Atsugi) to start your ROM. It varies. 3-5 seems fairly typical but I've heard as low as 1 and as high as 10.

The area you're in also heavily plays into it. If you're applying for a job in a city or some other highly-populated area chances are there's going to be a lot of people looking for the position, but if you're out in a rural area you're likely to have little to no competition for the spot.

I just PCSed to Sasebo, and I did not have to ROM for 28 days... I didn't realize that bases had such drastically different policies. You would likely still need the required coursework/degree. I believe they give some small credit towards required early childhood coursework (two years for 3 semester hours) but they basically want an elementary/early childhood degree (24 SH).

haha, this is truly helpful and I really like the way you suggested to spin it to admin. I think my admin would be supportive but I know it is a longshot but it is good not to blindside them too. Thank you for the awesome advice.

Unfortunately Dodea is more concerned about coursework. The good thing about having the certificate on your state license is that you should only need half the amount of credits in order to receive Dodea certification. Agree. Maybe check and see if any schools in your state/county will give you college credit on a transcript for some of that work. Unlikely that they will and/or that DoDEA will take it, but worth a few calls/emails.
