MathleteSo it looks like you had about 3 weeks between the interview and offer, that means I have another week before I start panicking.
Also, HR said the freezing account thing may or may not happen because they are still working the kinks out with the old HR and the new CHRA system. It's a mess.
The news that you were not the one selected seems to take months if it comes at all. It seems like they wait until the person selected makes it all the way to their firm offer/getting their orders before telling unsuccessful candidates the bad news and then they are supposed to send a notice to everyone that was on the referral list. Often that does not seem to happen at all.
Principals generally check out of the process after making their recommendations. If you have not heard anything in two weeks you might try calling/writing HR and the principal but shouldn't be too shocked if you do not get any useful information.
To give some backg...See MoreHey there. Just throwing this out there into the universe to see if it resonates with anyone else and to sort of make sure I am making the right decision.
So I accepted a tentative offer and I'm excited of course. But there's also this anxiety of "did I make the right decision?" Anyone else ever feel that way?
To give some background, I actually really like my current school and principal. I feel a part of the school community and love my position. I have developed some good friendships in my neighborhood as well. On the one hand I know my life is not perfect and that financially and cost of living wise it makes a lot of sense to go DoD route. I also relish the chance for a new adventure. But on the other their is this anxiety like "what if your current situation never quite matches up to DoD? What if you don't fit into the new community or school? What if I go into this and can't ever feel comfortable/satisfied like I am now again?"
I know that ultimately I am very adaptable, having lived in Japan and a few other places but does this anxiety make sense? How would you/did you deal with it? Thanks for your thoughts!
Cmc@Beyondhpeful yes, I feel that way. We're likely moving to another overseas location next summer so I'll try again next year if nothing happens this year. I plan on becoming a sub to hepoefully increase my chances (local hire). I would now, but I'm currently employed so I don't want to walk away from a full time job.
Is it the same for stateside? Will we be able to live on base (for free/low cost), or are we required to pay for housing in the states? Are moving expenses reimbursed? Any help in this area is SO appreciated!! Thank you!
As for your second question, from my experience with several hi...See MoreI'm not really sure of the answer to your first question. I have no first hand knowledge of the process from an admin point of view and have heard/read conflicting information. I'd be interested in knowing exactly what can be/is routinely viewed by admin at the referral stage.
As for your second question, from my experience with several high schools and from communicating with other teachers and reading boards/FB, I would say that LGBT issues are not very visible in most DoDEA schools. In my experience, students are relatively safe to be themselves in most schools and bullying/harassment is not generally tolerated. As for highlighting your involvement in the area, that's a personal decision really.
My personal opinion is that it would be a neutral for many admin, a potential turn off for some and a positive for a smaller percentage, but I could be way off. As you say, you can always work for students/look into starting programs once you are hired and in place.
