Are there any elementary positions becoming available 2019-2020 overseas? I know Puerto Rico is not considered overseas but are there any positions there?
Hello..my wife received 3 referrals in the last week. How long should she expect to wait for an interview? She is a prior DoDEA Teacher and a military spouse. Thanks for any and all feedback.
HappyHaha/Mary, thank you both for your interactions. I am active duty however, she is applying worldwide and her three referrals are outside our local area. I guess its like many many others...wait and see.

I'm an external applicant who did a career change to teaching. I have been a licensed K-12 teacher in Ohio since 2018. The DODEA requires that along with my teaching certificate, a minimum of nine semester hours of professional teacher education is required. In a way, this has been redundant since I essentially had to do this for the Ohio Department of Education.
I have been playing the game and making the grade, but won't have my ninth unit completed from Grand Canyon Univ. until June 9th.
Am I already behind schedule for the 2019-2020 recruiting season with DODEA? I welcome your feedback.
I received 2 emails today letting me know I am on referral lists for Japan and Korea. What does that really mean? I tried to search for other posts about this but couldn't figure out how - so if someone could explain that to me as well, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
I did not recall accurately. LQA for college students end at age 21 even if they are full-time students. Your unmarried, full-time college student children not yet 23 years of age can be enrolled in a college or university away from your current home and still be added to your orders.
If you accept a position overseas, and your children want to join you, they can have delayed PCS travel and arrive at the duty station after they have completed their quarter/semester as long as it is within the delayed travel time period (up to 6 months I think). If they are coming from a different location, you will need to talk to the HR person about how to arrange that. They may not cover anything more than the cost of flying from your start location (forever considered your home of record, HOR). They also may not pay for shipment from the college location. However, you might have some shipment that you can send through the mail.
After arrival at the location, they would need to provide proof of full-time status to receive ID card and base privileges if age 21-22. This card will usually end with the end date of your contract or possibly 2 years if your contract is longer than that. Their passports would have the SOFA stamp on the official and you should be able to have an unlimited exit/re-entry SOFA stamp added to the travel passport. This would expire the date your contract ends.
While your children (not yet 21 years of age) are away at college, IF they are on your orders, you should be able to include them in your LQA (that's my understanding). However, if anyone in the household is away more than 30 days, COLA will not be provided, so they must be notified if this occurs, even if they are away at college/university.
More than likely, even if you were offered a position for this year, I think the background check might prevent you from arriving prior to your oldest child's birthday. Therefore, that child would need to be enrolled full-time in a college or university (or trade school etc.). Most military locations have one or more colleges/universities where your child could potentially enroll. Most if not all the coursework will likely be delivered entirely online, which is not for everyone. Your child might want to consider enrolling in an online university/college now as long as the work can be completed from another time zone easily. Classes that occur on camera at odd hours may or may not be best.
If your oldest gets on your orders and arrives prior to the 21st birthday, I think that grace period won't go beyond the 22nd birthday if they are not enrolled full-time in a qualifying post-secondary school. This information was shared by the HR person, not something I read, so again, talk to HR about your specific when the time comes.
Hi! I'm new to this process so please forgive a question that may be very obvious to some. I've been told that applications for the upcoming school year are typically closed around January - but when (for example, for the 2020/2021 school year) will jobs be posted again for the next school year? Thanks!
Applications are never really closed with DoDEA. If an application is active/submitted then there is a chance the candidate could be considered for an opening, regardless what the target date, target year, etc. is on the EAS..
For 2020/2021, applications would generally be renewed in Feb/March of 2020 with hiring starting sometime in April/May.
So, I just finished an interview for a domestic ET position. Do they typically call references before an offer is made or do they just use the electronic form my references already submitted?
hahaIt depends. I have heard of references being contacted after the interview and I have heard of people being hired and saying they don't think any contact was made beyond the electronic reference.
HelpOthersSometimes they contact references before an interview. I have experienced this more often than afterwards, but I have been asked for the contact information of references during an interview, that I assume made it possible for them to contact afterwards if they chose.
I was looking to see if anyone knew about School Nurse positions with the DODEA.
I actually previously worked overseas for the DOD in Germany and would love to go back to Europe. I have been a nurse for 15 years and lots of experience working with children/adolescents. I am currently a nurse educator but would love to work overseas again.
I just applied through the DODEA site. My application is good to go. If anyone knows of any openings overseas/ information about the application process I would so appreciate it :-)
They might ask about teaching students and teachers about techno...See MoreNot specifically but given what our ET does, it would likely have something about experience/familiarity about updating/troubleshooting web-based systems to support the school, students and staff (e.g. Sharepoint, Google Suite apps, Schoology, SmartBoards, Chromebooks, etc.).
They might ask about teaching students and teachers about technology, although that varies wildly from school to school apparently.
