hahaI believe that they are the same thing. You might want to contact HR for confirmation before giving up on the idea and/or spending any money on it.
Respectively, are we ever going to get any explanations, updates, apologies, something, anything, when the site is down for significant periods of time?
...See MoreNew join here, only been with DoDEA for 8 months and I have already been excessed from my current position and received my first debt letter. What an amazing start to a new career.
What are the chances that some excess teacher arent found new positions and let go? I am new to all this so any insight from others would be amazing.
So, we were no worse off than if they have been taking them out, except of course that they wanted it all back at once. Actually, they did agree to take it out a little at a time from each check until it was paid. I have seen/heard people get them frequently for LQA related issues if they were paid more than they spent over a period of time (or the gov't thinks that they did).
Many times they are legitimate but annoying. The problem is that is like dealing with the IRS. They often give an amount they say you owe and the burden of proving that you don't is on you. And if you can't, they have the power to garnish/deduct it from your pay (especially if you are still a gov't employee).
Best advice is to keep a close on your paycheck/slips and to reconcile your LQA every once in a while to make sure that you are not getting/keeping an overage from your actual costs (and to never throw out any bills, receipts, etc. you might need later on).
My current vice principal told me today he completed a reference for dodea for me. He did one last year for me as well. Do references have to redo a reference each year?
Try asking on the DoD Teachers FB page and/or looking someone up at Rota in the Global Directory and emailing them to get the answer from teachers actually living/teaching there.
How long does it take the application to go from Pending, to Q...See MoreHello! I just applied to teach with the DoD. I am a High School Science teacher with 7 years of experience in the state of Texas. Is the DoD like the rest of the world and has a high demand for Science and math teachers, or is it different? I put down basically every location.
How long does it take the application to go from Pending, to Qualified?
I am super excited, but know it can be a long shot! Any words of advice are appreciated!
As for timelines, it varies wildly from days to many months. If you haven't seen any changes in a few weeks then start calling/writing and trying to make something happen. If you are dual qualified in math/science then they might be more inclined to review your file a bit quicker although this year is a bit different as they are having to place several hundred excessed teachers before they can consider any state side hiring.
WoodsieHello! With a degree and experience in Math/Science, you can also look at International schools. If you really want to travel, this is a great way to do it. These cost money to join, but you can finds jobs on https://www.tieonline.com and you can see school reviews at https://www.internationalschoolsreview.com. Good luck anywhere you apply!
hahaI would think that as long as it is from an accredited college and shows as earned credit, then it would be accepted towards qualification (but can't speak from first hand experience or knowing the specific policy). When in doubt, ask HR (and then share the answer with us!).
I have not yet finalized and submitted my application. However, I noticed that my qualifications are "pending." As I am waiting to hit send until a personal matter is taken care of, will they still go ahead and review my qualifications prior to me hitting finalize and submit? I hope that makes sense.
WoodsieThat was my thought, too. Before the renewal came out, my application was just sitting there, waiting to be finished. I got 3 emails for renewal and then my qualifications had jumped to pending. You are correct...anything can happen!
Got the email, and thanks for the heads up on renewing the EAS app. Fingers crossed I'l hear something!
Any tips on how to be sure everything is turned in /clicked correctly? I had a question on a qual in November, and apparently didn't have the transcripts and teaching license uploaded correctly. You need to make sure you have a little red star next to the title! (who would have guessed!)
Looks like they'll start new hires in March until August. Anyone know how the placing is going of the 300 excised teachers? I wonder if lots of people are taking the retirement.
Have a great week! We're expecting 9+ inches of snow this week in Iowa! Yikes!
FrankI don't know of any teachers that are taking the early retirement. I know of a couple that were planning on retiring anyways and are getting a nice little bonus from the VSIP.
