If you have a SPED degree/30+ credits that would generally qualify you in LI Mild to Moderate at the ES. MS and HS levels. Other qualifications like Mod. to Severe, EI, etc. would depend on the titles/descriptions of those classes and/or any state certs.
When in doubt, apply and see what they come back (if you haven't already).
Are you currently employed in a decent job, or are you unemployed and living in our parent's basement?
And what is the NTE date on the offer? That's an important factor in your consideration.
This may be a great position for you, but if so, that's probably because of things about your personal situation that you haven't shared here.
In general I'm not nearly as positive about NTE positions as either your future principal or the other commentator.
It's much easier to get an NTE position as many of the more well-qualified applicants will not consider these positions. This waters down the pool of applicants and makes it more difficult for a principal to fill these positions. Your principal is not impartial in this situation and their advice is suspect. He or she has an empty and unattractive vacancy to fill. Your principal was as upbeat and positive about the position as they could be without lying to you.
It is true that some NTEs stay in the sytem. The same is true for local hires, and teachers who start out as substitutes or aides. Some people spend a few years in these "hardship" positions and then go on to grab the brass ring.
I would never consider an NTE position. It would not suit my needs. And I feel that a well-qualified applicant is better served by waiting for the a permanent position
hahaFair point. I presumed (possibly incorrectly) that the OP was already overseas (essentially a local hire NTE) as HR would not be bringing someone from overseas for an NTE position.
Sometimes people get an email or even ...See MoreGenerally you would receive an email telling you that you were on a referral list, which means that an admin/HR requested a list of qualified applicants for a specific position at a specific school. They then usually select a number of candidates to interview (generally 3-5 but could be more or less).
Sometimes people get an email or even a call from a principal for an interview without ever having received a notice about being on a referral list.
I submitted my claim two weeks ago, for my first 20 days. It was approved. How long can I expect the reimbursement? My credit card bills are adding up!
Also, if I sign a lease the 21st and can't move in until the 26th because housing is closed, will there be a problem with receiving TQSA?
RJThank everyone! I finally received reimbursement, three weeks later. Yes, I did apply for AP, that only took two weeks. Hopefully LQA will be just as fast.
My EAS/USA jobs accounts are updated, and I was considering changing my account to local hire(as I already live here in Japan). I have searched through the EAS system, but I can't seem to find it. How do I change to the local setting?
hahaOn the Personal Information tab, change your applicant status to Local. Then on the Target Location and Availability Date tab, choose your interest area (complex/schools).
I have an interview next week for ...See MoreI have 16 years experience in education in NJ; therefore, I am vested in the pensions system. My salary is pretty good, but unfortunately I am the bread winner in the family and we can only pay the bills and not save. So, my career is going well here and if I stay it should improve ... but you never know.
I have an interview next week for a position with DODEA. I am only 43 years old, so I have at least another 20 years left in me; and I am more than willing to pick up and move. Is the DODEA system really the "brass ring" of education? My train of though is that I take the job (if offered) and do my best to advance as far as I can with DODEA. I just don't want to take a job, then subsequently find out that things aren't really that great. Maybe I am wrong to assume that working for DODEA is an incredible opportunity, but I'd like to hear first hand opinions.
hahaGood to see. I would remain cautiously optimistic until we get official guidance from DoDEA and further clarification from the IRS, etc.. I always assumed that the people affected would not see the worst case scenarios that were being envisioned (and hope that it does indeed work out that way).
Our school has I believe four people retiring mid-year. Several who are leaving now before the break. Do you think they are going to hire for these positions immediately or leave them available for the excessed employees.
hahaTough to say. The prevailing policy seems to change from year to year, District to District. Depending on when they put in their paperwork, they could be looking already for a replacement. Ask your admin and/or union rep.
