hahaGenerally, you receive an email telling you that you have made a referral list. Occasionally, people get a call/email from a principal for an interview without ever receiving a referral email.
I recently applied for a job as assistant principal. I requested my score from head quarters, and they responded with my score. Does anyone have any idea how to tell if my score is good?
I was expecting my score to be out of 100, but they said my score was out of 70?
somedayHaHa I am assuming that they got full points on application and to get above that they would have veterans points. Don't they still do that, add 5 or 10 points for veterans?
hahaThat would make more sense, but I don't claim any special knowledge about the leadership recruitment process, how they apply veteran points or the point system in general.
ziggyAt my location we regularly don't have enough subs to cover and pull from aid positions (many aids are in long term sub positions and not technically hired as aids).
I got an email list!! It's my first one and I'm so excited! How long does it usually take to hear back if you are selected for an interview? Also, any suggestions? Any information on Bahrain?
There isn't much to do outdoors, the base is relatively small, due to oil prices tanking taxes are going up VERY quickly. The school is half private so you will be teaching military and locals (the school is considered one of the best on the island). air quality sucks and is usually worse than china. People run out of things to do on island quickly because there is so little to do. summer is hot. like, 120 daily, and it only cools off maybe 10 degrees at night.
workweek is sun-thurs. You get extra pay for sundays, and get used to the work week very quickly.
school administration just changed, and that is a great thing. We aren't on base due to having locals attend and that does make it hard socially sometimes.
It's quite safe here. It's in the ME, but its not scary. Many restaurants have full bars, you can eat amazing bbq pork, hit the beach in your favorite bikini or walk around town with yoga pants with zero issues.
It's not uncommon to like very well (6 bed/5 bath/2 kitchen/3 living rooms/pool/live in maid to watch the kids & clean). included in rent is also a pool guy every morning, lawn maint, and they wash our cars daily.
My family doesn't regret taking the chance here at all and we laugh every time someone is worried about the safety of the location when we tell them. There is more news about chicago then here. But if anyone is scared of specifically moving here, i would suggest dont - its not worth being afraid for the family for a job & chance at better place. + if transfers get taken away you could be here for a long time til you quit.
Just MeThank you so much! . I'd love to work there. I'm still hoping for an interview. Haven't heard anything as of yet. It's been a week since hearing I made the referral list.
And please correct me if I'm wrong haha, but the teacher placement for everyone working there goes inter-district then worldwide and happens before any transfer program moves take place.
In general, they will look to place people as close to possible to their current location. It would follow then that they will try to place as many people as possible at Humphreys (which has continued to grow over the years). After that, they do generally ask for people's preferences but reserve the right to place you anywhere they want you/need you.
If there are still people left unplaced then they could go into the transfer round, providing there is one (in the past it's been as category C, unless they rated higher based on location/years of service).
But then again, it sounds like we may be in new territory here.
Has anyone heard any rumblings about the transfer round this year? Last year it was officially announced in November, but I thought there was talk about expected funding and timelines a bit earlier.
hahaYes, there were some interesting, leading questions among the predictable informational ones (e.g. should principals be involved in the process, should they be able to balance teacher preference with staffing needs, should transfers be merit based, etc.). I looked at some of it but didn't submit.
I did hear some rumblings from longtimers today that they don't think there will be a transfer round this year, but there was no evidence to support that position.
1. What is the timeline? When should I expect to be boarding? (I have custody arrangements that are pending and will take about 2.5 months to straighten out.... is this a deal breaker or will they wait?)
2. I am traveling with dependents. Does DODEA pay for all expenses up front or will I have to put up the money and wait to get reimbursed?
3. How much should I expect to pay for a 60lb dog to come along?
4. I have a religious exemption for my kids' vaccinations. Will DODEA honor that or will my kids have to be vaccinated?
5. Since I have already been cleared qith DODEA stateside, will the background check for DODSS be quicker?
6. How long before I am eligble for the transfer round? Does it depend on the location of this position? (I heard that Iwakuni requires a 5-year commitment).
7. My husband is a truck driver. Are there many jobs on bases overseas that require a CDL? How easy will it be for him to find work? (Any work, really).
8. How does medical care work? Will there be hospitals in base or will we need to use local (Japanese) facilities?
9. Does my accrued sick and personal time roll over, or will I lose it?
10. Is there a new employee orientation or training videos that can explain ecerything to me?
11. Since I will be working an extra month (stateside schools start in August and are done at the end of May), will I receive extra compensation for those additional days?
12. Will I be allowed to take my vehicle? If not, will they store it, and will I be able to retrieve it when I visit stateside?
13. Other than on this chatboard, where (or to whom) can I address these questions??
I am so sorry for the million questions, but I can't sleep, because these questions are keeping my brain awake.... any answers would be greatly appreciated!!
Ron.eThank you Haha. I received another email later today that I was referred for the PD position for Okinawa. Now, I wait for the email for an interview?
hahaBasically, yes. Some people do try and get more proactive by emailing the relevant principal/hiring authority and introducing themselves, expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity to interview, etc. but that's a personal choice.
IcanreadI think it only took a few weeks to get the official passports for all 4 of us. I actually think they were ready sooner, but they won't send them to you until you have travel orders.
IdaThis is another example of how different the process is. We got ours for the whole family the day after we got our firm offer on a fed ex package. Like they had just been waiting to send them.
