LQA lasts for the duration if you are granted them at hire (usually the case if you are hired from the states/outside of the local community).

And even after 10 years, you don't lose the LQA, you just can't use it to pay towards the same house (from my understanding. Not first hand since we prefer the simplicity of renting).

It doesn't generally do any good to update until the system wants you to, which is generally in February. They usually send an email advising you to update. But if you don't receive anything by then you should check into EAS and keep an eye on this board to see when other posters are updating.

Yes, after you have orders, you then schedule the exact travel arrangements (and they generally have a travel on or around date which gives you some flexibility).

I know you're in a hurry to find a house and get settled but really try and get to know the lay of the land (and ideally talk to some people about the pros and cons of different areas) before you choose. Once you're in some place it's relatively difficult/costly to move.

I second what Haha said take your time finding a home. You need to learn the area, the traffic patterns, what your likes and dislikes are. You will be living in whatever you choose for quite a while. It will also take some time to get your money coming in. I don't even have ID yet because of a snafoo and have been here two weeks.
