There are also self-contained classes for students with Moderate to Severe disabilities (LIMS) who have electives in gen. ed. but generally get everything else in the SPED class and/or go out for community based learning.
If you are teaching at a school and decide to transfer to another school on a base nearby (Baumholder to Ramstein, 30 minutes drive) how would this affect your LQA? Would you be considered a local hire and then lose it? Would it just continue as is until the 10 year mark? Or Start over? Thanks for any help.
I believe the 10 years only applies if you are using LQA to buy a house (as posted). Buying can be a bit complicated, depending on the location. Some people still find it to be worthwhile since basically the gov't is paying the mortgage for 10 years.
Generally you can only keep what you spend and can document, whether you are buying or renting.
hahaAnd even after 10 years, you don't lose the LQA, you just can't use it to pay towards the same house (from my understanding. Not first hand since we prefer the simplicity of renting).
When should you update your application for the next school year? Should you update your references too, even if it is the same people? What about your availability date?
Generally you do not have to do anything with ...See MoreIt doesn't generally do any good to update until the system wants you to, which is generally in February. They usually send an email advising you to update. But if you don't receive anything by then you should check into EAS and keep an eye on this board to see when other posters are updating.
Generally you do not have to do anything with references, only reupload transcripts, certifications, etc.

I'm curious as to how often 0109 (Compensatory Reading Elementary) and 0411 (Language Arts/Reading Specialist) positions come open. Is there 1 or both of these positions at every elementary school? I'm 3 credits short for each of these qualifications and am thinking of taking another course.
Remeber to get proper receipts for any taxis you take between home and your base/hotel in South Korea. A proper receipt is more detailed that a simple credit card receipt. It will also include the origin and destination of the trip.
You won't need the receipts for a short taxi ride, but be very careful to get a proper receipt for that expensive 50 mile taxi ride to the airport (for example.)
Just to play Devil's Advocate you might want to get a 2nd opinion re...See MoreSorry to hear that. From my understanding you are looking for a hardship move of some type.Start with your principal who should have the answers and/or can get the information from District/HR. I would also touch base with your union person who can follow up on their end.
Just to play Devil's Advocate you might want to get a 2nd opinion regarding treatment on the economy. I unfortunately have had some very serious health issues and was extremely pleased with my treatment and follow up care in two different locations (Europe and Japan). Language has not been an issue as the doctors in Europe generally spoke English and the hospital in Japan provides excellent interpreters. It may not be ideal for everyone but I am very glad that I did not separate from DoDEA to get treatment and follow up care.
Good luck with getting what you need for your peace of mind with whatever you decide.
I'm currently teaching abroad so I have...See MoreI understand that the official orders don't come until security has been finalized. Are passports sometimes complete prior to the official orders or do they process the passports after the official orders come? Once I have the orders can I help select my date of travel within a reasonable time frame?
I'm currently teaching abroad so I have a complicated exit process here. I don't want to resign too early because I have a large family and part of the exit process includes leaving our housing so we'd be at a hotel or have to stay with friends. On the flip side I don't want to resign too late and have trouble completing the exit process in time to go.
I still have hurdles to go but I keep thinking through all the possible scenarios and would appreciate any insights from those that have been there.
hahaIn our case (and others I have heard of), the passports were processed and were ready (and held) until orders were cut.
Yes, after you have orders, you then schedule the exact travel arrangements (and they generally have a travel on or around date which gives you some flexibility).
We're here! Looked around Camp Humphrey's for a bit this morning. Jet lag is setting in, and my son and I have an upset stomach. We have an appt with a realtor at 1. We are going to try and get some rest before then, and hopefully we'll find a house today! What a crazy process this has been.
hahaI know you're in a hurry to find a house and get settled but really try and get to know the lay of the land (and ideally talk to some people about the pros and cons of different areas) before you choose. Once you're in some place it's relatively difficult/costly to move.
somedayI second what Haha said take your time finding a home. You need to learn the area, the traffic patterns, what your likes and dislikes are. You will be living in whatever you choose for quite a while. It will also take some time to get your money coming in. I don't even have ID yet because of a snafoo and have been here two weeks.
