HelpOthersIf you are offered a stateside position and turn it down, you will not be able to receive any more interviews and offers this hiring year. Assuming you already have an application in EAS, just open up your areas of consideration to the stateside locations you could move yourself to and the overseas locations you are willing to go.
HelpOthersIf you accept the stateside position, your application will be frozen and you will need to ask them to unfreeze it in the spring to be considered for the following school-year.
I recall reading here that our first year, we get paid over 9 months rather than 12. I'm wondering how that affects our TSP contributions. Do they stop during the summer, or do we need to make arrangements to submit payments? Thanks!
HelpOthersI believe the paper that has the amounts will say how much per paycheck. The amount taken is every two weeks and I do believe they are able to adjust based on the number of paychecks.
I got told today that passports are taking 4-6 weeks to process. So, I'm definitely not making it to Korea for the start of the school year. I also have to be out of my apartment by the 20th of this month, and have to find a short-term, pet-friendly rental that won't mind me vacating on short notice. I just want to get to Korea!!!!
HelpOthersOr, having it delivered to you at work. However, mine arrived on a Saturday. I would push for the start date on the offer as the reason for hand-walking the passport paperwork. If you check into a pay by the week hotel, that would also give you an address. Maybe even look for air bnb options near you.
WA_CounselorI spoke with Eugenia, and she said that she would call me and get a current address before she mails them out. That's a relief because I can just have them sent to my permanent address in WA.
When they ask and check references, is it before or after the initial interview? I have finally received a interview request and they are asking for my references. I have not informed my current employer yet. I don't what them to find out from a DODEA secretary before I have had a chance to speak with them.
Wishful ThinkingGood Luck, Kelly! Make sure you look at your referral notice at this location to be prepared for questions directly relating to this job type. As Mary discussed in an earlier post, there may be different jobs listed under one Job Announcement for ISS positions.
Another quick question! Are the assignments to Korea 1 or 2 years? I am interviewing for a ISS position. Not sure if that would impact the assignment length.
How long after submitting the initial paperwork were you contacted by the department that does the background check? It's been about 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything. When I mentioned it to my HR rep she just said it is the busy season. Just checking to make sure that sounds right.
That being said, After completing EQIP the final offer came in just a week. Then another week after that for for travel orders and then it takes at least 10 days after that to get a pack out. I'm flying out before pack out and my family will follow after.
Good luck and speedy wishes to everyone going through this!
In general, DoDEA does not really advance any type of benefit. They generally prefer that you pay and then submit receipts for reimbursement. The exceptions that I can think of would be the pay advance and LQA (which is still only given after submitting your signed lease).
You should be able to get your pay advance with 2-3 weeks of arrival. As posted, you will just have to pull together all of your resources until then. Hang in there. It will be worth it.
I suggest getting the advanced pay for the full three months/6 paychecks, and think you can request a quick emergency pay of a certain amount as soon as you start- actually the pay starts a week or so later, but not a month or more later.
You will need one month of expenses if you are turning in your receipts every two weeks. If you need to sell something to have this money- it would be advisable- maybe your car will give you what you need
