HelpOthersPrincipals receive too many e-mails that they do need to read. Just make sure you have included everything you can in the narrative that is not included in all the options on the page that shows your experience. Also make sure all the dates show you are available for this 2018-2019 school-year.
However, school is about to start in the ...See MoreHad an interview with a principal from a school in DoDEA Pacific for a position in Social Studies. Interview went well. Asked a ton a questions. Had the opportunity to ask some myself. The curriculum lines up with I'm currently teaching in my district in Ohio, so this should be an easy transition.
However, school is about to start in the district I currently teach. Also, my references have been contacted from the DoDEA. I have a mixed bag of former and current administrators in the pool. Which is good, yes?
I have a fear that these admins (wanting to keep me in the district) will try to keep me in my contract. They have received reference check forms, so the cat is out of the bag sorta speak. One of my references wants me to talk to HR in my district now, without a tentative offer to "keep them in the loop."
Did I make a mistake by adding current references?
I have not received a tentative offer. The time frame after reading most of the posts on this forum and what my potential future principal expressed- it should take about three months to start school. Is this true?
Also, has anyone had a district hold their contract? Or threaten to hold their contract?
I've been going through a similar situation, but it's thankfully been resolved. I think that it is good that you've alerted your current administrators now as opposed to waiting until you have travel orders/firm offer. Just be sure moving forward that you keep them updated on everything that will happen if a tentative offer is presented. We're advised to wait until you have travel orders to resign from your current job.
I received my tentative offer for a position in Japan at the beginning of May, and after going through the background check process and filling out tons of paperwork, I'm just receiving my firm offer as of last week (the longest 3 months of my life)! When I got my tentative offer, it was towards the end of the last school year. I had the chose to resign then, but I would risk not having a paycheck for months since I knew how extensive the process could be. What I ended up doing was sucking up the fact that I would essentially start the school year off and leave within a few weeks. My principal wasn't very happy about it and told me that the only way that I could get out of my contract would be for the district to find a replacement for me. THANK GOD they were able to find my replacement who will start next week/my last day. If I had not waited until a replacement was found, they could have reported my license and/or would have held me to the contract. It helped that I had a great relationship with my the department that I'm under to quickly replace my position. They were understanding that this is a major opportunity and that I shouldn't pass up. I would talk to HR to make sure that you are able to get out of your contract without any major issues.
I hope that this gives some perspective. Keep the faith, it will all be worth it after this initial frenzy! Good luck with everything!!!
I sent a message to HR(with no reply), and searched online for confirmation for the correct address to send it to, but the system was down the last three days.
Can someone please help me with the correct address to have the 5011 Rec form sent to?
HelpOthersStress your report date as a reason to expedite the passports. Eugenia CAN walk them where they need to go to have them returned more quickly, but she has to have good cause.
HelpOthersOnce you have orders, you could be out in a week or two, depending on whether the moving companies are backed up. You can give a limited power of attorney to someone to help with your household goods or leave a spouse behind to travel a little later, so you can report closer to the beginning of your orders time-line.
CdubI currently live in Germany (working at an international school), and was told it is no problem to move from my current location, while using my hometown in the US as my HOR.
WA_CounselorI was told by my HR rep that my HoR is the location I am hired from - end of story. Neither WA nor FL have state income tax, so I guess I'll worry about it when I start thinking about making the US my home again. I'd like to stay abroad until I retire, which is quite some time away, but we'll see what happens on the world stage and go from there.
Since teachers and other staff return for the upcoming school year on 7/25 with my current job, I thought that it would be responsible and professional of me to notify my current principal of my current situation. She sent a not so flattering response and I'm not sure of how to respond as of yet. She says that she cannot release me until a replacement has been found. In a way this gives me time to continue to wait on EQIP, but I feel as if my current position will make it difficult to transition to DoDEA once my travel orders eventually come. I'm in the process of pulling out my contract to see how resignment should be properly handled.
Has anyone ever been put into this situation? Any advise?
Email saying EAS application was complete 6/22 (had difficulty with professional evaluation forms)
Email from PSIP saying application was complete and sent to OPM 6/25
*Weekly follow-up with several "out of office" messages
Travel orders received 7/12 with travel date of 8/5
Scheduled flight on 7/19 for 8/5
Information for request for packout submitted on 7/19 and now scheduled for 8/8
*I had a problem where it said to print/upload forms then submit. It still let me submit without uploading first! It looked like they were already "uploaded" into the move.mil system but they weren't
Firm offer received 7/27 (after weekly follow-up and some back and forth about adjusted salary)
Requested location closer to base for arrival (had attempted once before but was unsuccessful) but got a call from HR (because my principal called HR) asking me to try again and tickets changed 8/2 for flight 8/5
Original flight was Portland>Amsterdam>Frankfurt on Delta but am now flying Portland>San Francisco> Frankfurt>Nuremberg on United. There is a Portland>Amsterdam>Nuremberg flight but I was told it's not one of the "approved" routes. Now just 2 more days to get things packed as best I can!
Hope everyone waiting will hear some good news soon!
