Hi I am still getting referrals and I was hoping to hear that you got this one also. I am rooting for you! It was Korea I know you mentioned you might add locations.
BubbleHeadI've checked my junk mail, 2 other email accounts they don't even have, voice mail, text messages, my mailbox in front of the house and under my bed. The teacher across the hall from me has taught DoD before and has gotten several referrals this year also didn't receive a referral from Korea.
I just spoke with my HR rep, and she advised me that when the background information when to OPM that was the last phase. She said she should hopefully be able to review it tomorrow and make the final recommendation to HR.
HelpOthersThank you. You are right. Timelines are helpful. I hope you enjoy it there I know I did. Readers, keep in mind this is stateside. When going overseas, it seems they wait for the background check to be completed before sending the firm offer.
CdubQuick turn around! Awesome. For overseas hires, there is also the additional step of medical authorizations, etc. with several other forms related to the request for travel orders...
HelpOthersThey are moved abroad too if needed. I believe there is one location in Europe, one Oscufic, and one USA. We live in the Pacifuc and often the teacher is in Europe. I'm not sure if this is due to vacant positions, or just is.
I also recommend that you transfer your LQA and PA to a separate account with a $500 savings safety margin that your rent, utilities, car insurance, and cell phone bills come out of. You should have a safety margin for reconciliation in that account. Then live off your real paycheck in a different account.
If you get a debt letter during employment, ALWAYS have them do the default and take it out of your paychecks over time because then both parties have a record that it was paid.
You are likely to get hit with debt letters when you quit DoDEA. I got three. The last two processed fine, but the first one (over $2K) was billed by an obscure department with inadequate contact info. Even though I paid by the deadlines by certified check and certified mail and I kept all the paperwork, it took me over a year to clear my record. I didn't file taxes on time because I didn't want to have to trace DOUBLE payment. Got it cleared up in time to be rehired.
Most cars get dinged up while here. The roads are more like the width of s one lane road in many locations, although major roadways are not an issue. Driveways are extremely tight if you live off base. Etc.
There are people here who buy cars ...See MoreWe managed to sell two almost brand-new cars before coming to Japan. We had put a decent down payment on them, so thankfully we weren't upside down. We actually ended up breaking even, but since we really had nowhere to store them and didn't want to make payments on cars we can't drive, it was worth it.
There are people here who buy cars from auto auctions and sell them to Americans. The perk to using them (and paying a little more than lemon lot prices) is that all of the fees, inspections, etc are included. They do all the legwork which is huge because it saves time, days off, etc. Our guy is great. I had a minor issue with my car about 6 months after buying. He took it to have it fixed and gave me a loaner....all free. I am not sure if your area will have things like this, but I found it to be a way to feel a bit more at ease in buying a used car.
Does anyone have any knowledge pertaining to part time permanent teaching positions? What would benefits and estimated salary be with a master degree? Considering taking on a part time position and relocation would be a big move.
hahaThe other thing to consider is that storage is generally an all or nothing type thing. It's either in, or out, and you generally cannot get/use something and then put it back (like use your car for the summer and then put it back into storage).
HelpOthersAnd it is NIT climate controlled. Military tend to be overseas only two years, but you will likely be in your location at least 5 and overseas potentially until retirement or your final 3-5 years. Most people find Everything ruined in that time period. Now you have to pay the taxes on it.
