Just completed my application this week and it's still pending. I wasn't able to apply for this current school year which I assume has me out of the running, BUT.. I have a Bachelors in English, education minor (plus some extra stuff to get certified), 8 years of high school experience (5 of which have also included work at a virtual academy), I am AP Lit certified (and experienced) and have taught 9-12, SpEd, CP, honors, Pre-AP, and AP levels, plus a semester of Theater Arts. I have no idea how my experience/resume stacks up. I got a job at the first school I applied for and have never left so all of this is new territory. Anyone going through the process or who has been through it.. I'd be very appreciative for feedback on my qualifications and opinions on my hireability for next year (or the chances of a Hail Mary for this year). I am available for all overseas locations. I taught at an international school in college in Micronesia, and I also own a tour company with my husband, so we've traveled quite a bit and both lived abroad in the past (he grew up in Canada, and family current lives in the UAE). Do I stand a chance for next school year? Is there anything I can do to "stand out?" Thanks in advance! Love reading through these threads.
Is it too early to let my current...See MoreIt's taken me 8 years to get my first interview. I just received a tentative offer for a science position at Fort Knox H.S. I understand the difference between tentative offer and official offers. Sounds like there is a ton of paperwork and sometimes a waiting period. Teachers report July 30 at Fort Knox!
Is it too early to let my current school district know that I will be leaving?
Positive Vibes@Hope, the same happened to me. I got 3 or 4 from jobs I never interviewed for. It made me sad at first because I was wondering - well was it my resume or what? But hopefully something soon (I'm trying as a local hire overseas...)
mariab3 1/2 weeks. I'm guessing it's probably not going to happen this year for gen ed elementary though. I put my app in for 19/20 so do they even look at them for this year?
MS Science would be a close second (maybe first in some people's mind) and would fit in much better with existing experience. Given your enthusiasm for the subject, that would probably be my suggestion, FWIW.
ESL would probably be 3rd as far as marketability, given that many schools share teachers with other schools and it would be difficult to have a .5 elementary/.5 ESL teacher. Having it as an area wouldn't hurt, probably would not help enough to make it worth adding a degree.
In the end, you never know what combos will come up in a given year so all you can do is try and maximize your chances.
Did you have good answers to all the interview questions asked over the phone? Is it normal(?) to not have answers to all the questions and be a little nervous?
Has anyone in the Japan area had experience with dependents going to college. Wondering what my kids' options would be. Sending them stateside would not be ideal.
hahaMost seem to go back to the states or take online classes. There are generally some face to face classes offered through Education Centers on base but options are fairly limited. There are some English options available in country but don't know the details.
Fall and Spring are generally very nice. You'd get a fair amount of rain at (especially at the beginning of the summer). Summers are hot and humid. All in all, the weather is not bad and at least not boring/always the same.
June 8: got an email that I hadn't returned and accepted the offer and had until COB (2 hours to go) to accept or the offer was withdrawn!!! I nearly passed out. I called after re-submitting it and called to verify that it went through. I even sent a pic of the screenshot showing it was sent.
NOTE: call or email to confirm receipt of offer acceptance
My HR rep went to a week long training
June 21 I called to find out when I would get eQip and fingerprint stuff. It hadn't been submitted. She said by Monday I should get the email saying a background investigation was initiated
June 22 I got an email for background check but it had the wrong spelling for my name so it had to be re-submitted
June 27 eQip email, completed it same day.
No fingerprint stuff, so I emailed my HR person on June 28 to see if I needed them. I then got an email from a security person. She told me what I needed and I went to the Army installation I live near. They submitted them via online.
June 28. I emailed my HR rep and the security contact to let them know the prints were uploaded digitally.
Now just the wait for the background check....any ideas how long that'll take?
joseybearToday I emailed the security person and my HR rep to check on the status and my e-fingerprints. I then got an email. In addition to the electronic prints, I now need hard copy prints. Would have been helpful to know last Friday when I did the others. So I'll be doing that in the AM.
Seems like weekly updates or checking in is helpful.
