For him to be on your orders, you need a marriage license with both your legal names on it. You do not need to change your name. I understand not wanting to try to get passports, etc. changed.

That sounds about right from what people have posted recently (I'm sure someone who went through the process more recently can confirm or deny).
As for using your old/current background check it almost happens for some reason.

Taxes... Until a change is made, current new hires going directly overseas are expected to pay taxes on the moving expenses. However, if you are transferring from one position to another within the federal government, you can at least receive those taxes back through a tax allowance. (WTA/RITA).

For some reason, I recall that they do pay for relocation to PR (but wouldn't swear to it).

You may want to check other positions to see if you are qualified. Being qualified for only social studies puts you in a position where you are unlikely to be hired. It seems like anything you can add about what really might separate you from the other candidates as far as strengths or special skills would be helpful (maybe that seems obvious). Talk to your current principal and make sure they have given you a good recommendation. Maybe try to find a way to upload your most recent evaluations, especially if they are exceptional. Hundreds of people CAN make it onto a referral list, but only the top three candidates (as they appear on paper) tend to be interviewed.

Agree it's definitely not too late (and still early compared to past years). Being in the system also should not be a negative and may be a bit of a positive.

I know it isn't DODEA but have you thought about other teaching jobs in Korea. You could probably get something (it obviously wont pay as much) and then reapply as a local hire for next school year. That does sound like an unfortunate turn of events. You should try and get some clarification from HR (and from your fiancee about his status, benefits, etc.). Going in with the idea that you are likely going to leave after a year is not a great situation for you or anyone else involved.

I figure the correct salary will be worked out on the final offer. My tentative offer was way low, no credit for education or experience and it wasn't even from the correct professional pay scale. I haven't received my firm offer yet, but my hr rep told me it would be corrected.
