I have been with DoDEA and working overseas since 2010. Due to various person reasons (proximity to specialized healthcare being primary), I need to move back to the States. What process is in place (if any) to facilitate a transfer?
If you are really wanting to stay with DoDEA and move directly into a job, you could try prevailing upon your current principal to try and network, with or without District help, and see if there are any matching DoDEA Americas openings in locations you would be open to.
LolaTeachNot transfers, however you can apply and generally you will be higher on the list if you are internal applicant. I did it last year. I received several referrals and interviewed in late June. I received the tentative offer, the same day. Interestingly enough, I now want to go back to DODEA, which doesn't seem as easy.....
How many of you are already teaching/employed outside of DOD? For those of you who are employed with your local district, how does it work if you get a job after you started your contract with your local district? For some reason, this is my biggest fear!
HelpOthersI think most school districts, just don't want you leaving to work at another district within driving distance. If they know you are moving more than 50 miles away, they are more likely to release you from the contract. If you wait until you have orders, you have evidence of that.
I just received a tentative offer but the salary step doesn't reflect the allowable 5 years of experience from a non-DoDEA school district. Is this normal?
I got the email that the background check request was received on Friday. Yesterday Wednesday I got the eQip email. I completed it. I haven't gotten fingerprint cards. Should I? How long does it take for the eQip to be completed? Also is there a way to login to just th status of your eQip/background check?
HeART TeacherThat happened to me too, Mrs. C. I went in and got them done at the police station because the second email said what form to use but they never even asked for fingerprints in the initial email and then I got a warning.
slpgeekI got an email with instructions for fingerprint cards and then the cards came over night with a prepaid envelope to overnight back to Virginia. This all happened the same day or so that I got he eqip email. So strange that it varied so much. I agree to contact your security rep ASAP.
When you arrive at your duty station, your lodging and food and incidentals (laundry fees) will be reimbursable. You will need to have enough cash or credit to pay about 1 month of your own costs at a time, because you put the request in usually after two weeks and it often takes two weeks to be reimbursed.
If you move into a house before your UB and HHG arrive, you can borrow furniture (for free) until it arrives. However, this usually does not include sheets, dishes, etc., so ideally UB will arrive, or you will use a local thrift store or borrow from others until yours arrive. This could add to the amount you need in cash/credit and if you are buying a car- you will want that money too.
I was notified on May 24th that I was on a referral list for DoDEA but the request for an interview just came today. So don't give up hope. There is still time. For anyone wondering.
Hello Everyone! I just received a referral notice for PR. This is the second time I have been notified of a referral to this location but nothing else. Is it normal to have two of the same referral and then no other notifications?
Just got an automated EAS notice for this position. Position is 0340 Secondary Math and 0361 Secondary Computer Science. Anyone know if this post in South Korea is enduring?
I'm planning to add an endorsement to my HS/MS Social Studies license because I haven't gotten a single interview in 3 years. SPED is not an option. Which would make my chances greater, adding English or Phys Ed? Thanks!
PE would be an odd combo with SS but it could happen. Keep in mind that for DoDEA you need to add college credits, not just a state certification (although state certification halves the normally required number of credits).
AVID would be something else to consider. It can be added with just a workshop and you see a fair amount of AVID combos (and at least one school in Japan just hired a SS/AVID combo this year).
