They posted for a teacher that has hearing impaired/preschool disabled (combo job) qualifications early this morning on USA jobs if anyone happens to have those certs! It is listed for Kadena in Okinawa, Japan.
hahaMy understanding is that you can do it without school sponsorship. Check out the AVID website and maybe write someone for confirmation. It looks like the training is offered quite frequently:
I have been reading about the process for many of you. I am curious about the detail of E-QIP. Did it take long to complete? Could it be done over a cell phone or would computer be required? I'm traveling so that is why I'm curious.
Mrs.CYou can go here to do a browser compatibility check: https://www.opm.gov/e-qip/browser-check.asp. I just filled it out and there weren't any lengthy responses. As with most forms, it would be more convenient to type out on a computer but I would say that as long as the browser is compatible it should work.
Anyone gotten any for SPED (or other categories) in the last two weeks? I got a few very early this year and one interview request on the 15th but that's it. Just wondering if there are less positions this year or they are waiting later or what. Any insight is appreciated.
southernteachSo weird. I'm qualified for that too and several others but nothing yet this month. I have everywhere listed on my app. Hope you get an interview. Good luck and thanks for the response.
*I've applied for elementary (K-6) for a school in Japan for the 2019-2020 school year and I'm state certified with reading and ESOL endorsements along with a years experience teaching English in Korea---how likely do you guys think I'll get any interest from schools?*
Cassidy GleatonMary, first of all, I want to say thank you for answering my concerns with so much helpful information. I had filled out the information needed for the online application portal a year ago trying to be placed in South Korea, (that's where they reviewed my application and told me I had to get the form for my current principal of the time to fill out) but I was accepted into the EPIK program in Korea so I never made the changes. Now I'm looking to be placed in Japan (I selected the generic mainland Japan option so I'm assuming that means any school in Japan) for the school year starting summer 2019-summer 2020 (I also saw that most bases in Japan require a minimum two year contract, but that's fine with me). I'm about to finish my EPIK contract in a little over a month and I'll be heading back to Florida where I plan to find mini contracts or fill a teacher position for this coming school year. I can patiently wait for my updated application to be reviewed I was just very paranoid that maybe they won't look at the updated one because they still have the old notes for the last time I submitted the application from a year ago. I thought I was positive on meeting the DODEA teaching requirements because my B.A is in elementary education, I have my state license, and just a few endorsements. I saw on the website that if you are state licensed then you don't need to take the PRAXIS tests and that you can by-pass the other non-licensed teacher requirements. (For all I know I could've read that wrong though.) Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions and to give your help! It means so much because I feel left in the dark during this process.

I think you have to specify even then if you want Guam, Puerto Rico, and possibly Turkey. Stateside positions are an entirely different tab.
If you intend to keep your application active but not be considered for positions until the 2019-2020 school-year, your qualifications will likely not be reviewed until they either have no applicants for a position this year that you have stated as an area of interest, or until they are finished hiring for the 2018-2019 school-year.
world2goOk thanks for the info. I tried emailing a question on a course about 6 weeks ago and still have heard nothing. I didn't follow up because a friend let me know it was approved for her. I wasn't in a hurry to email again. But I didn't think to call. I'll give them a call and see. Thanks again!
joseybearAfter reading the forum, I looked into LaVerne. From the time I ordered my courses to getting a transcript for 7 semester hours, it was 1 month! Pushed me masters plus 30. Great option and fast. $115/credit

My HR representative offers to reach out to security on my behalf. I let her know that I've had an email in since Monday requesting this information (from both HR and security). I was assured that I will have a response today... her today is my overnight so I am off to bed and hoping that I will wake up to some helpful information from someone. I know this is a process but it just seems like they make things more complicated than they have to be. Why were print instructions not just sent via e-mail? Why wouldn't HR have this information? I'm sure it will all work out but I'm nervous because my instructions said there are only 7 days to complete E-QIP and submit all supporting documentation once it has been initiated. My fingerprint office takes 2 appointments a day and my 7 days expires on Monday. I wish I would have known that fingerprints fell under supporting documentation. I would have made sure to do those first before initiating the E-QIP.

Mrs.CI'm very happy the wheels are starting to turn for you too. Let's hope that this part of the process happens as quickly as possible and we are all set to teach in August :)
I currently work for DODEA and just completed all my background stuff less than a year ago. If I accept a position overseas, will I have to do it all over again or will they make an exception?
Happy TeacherWhat about previous employees, returning after LWOP but within two or three years? Do you think there's a "fast track" for background checks in that case?
As ...See MoreIt's always difficult to predict. If you are teaching with DoDEA Americas you SHOULD be fine. If it's a different position (substitute to teacher, etc.) I know people who have had to go through the whole thing again. I had to redo mine while a current DoDEA overseas teacher even though it had been less than two years since I was hired.
As for returning teachers, it's anybody's guess. Could go either way.
I received two emails saying that I was on the referral list and I got excited. Then not even 4 days later, I received an email saying I wasn't hired for the positions included in one of the emails. Is this normal? I didn't even interview. (I would be a local hire if I ever did get hired....)
haha, I will do just that! I did meet the new incoming asst principal but it definitely wouldn't hurt to reach out to the principal. Thank you for the advice!
