Credit for previous year experience

I have a question about credit for non dodea previous teaching experience. For those of us who have taught outside of DODEA for many years- is credit given for those previous years on the teacher pay scale? I have taught for 19 years but was not sure if I would get any or all credit for those years.

LolaTeach DODEA credits 5 for Stateside positions and 10 overseas.

HelpOthers Overseas starts with step 1 (no experience), so adding 10+ years of non-DoDEA teaching experience starts you on step 11.

Stateside (including Puerto Rico and Guam) start on step 0 (no experience), so adding 5 years of experience starts you on step 5.

Hi everyone! I've been watching this board for a bit just trying to get an idea for every thing while I waited for some paperwork to submit to apply. So I haven't seen anything really about math teachers. Is there a high demand with DODEA like in public schools in the states?

haha Yes, math is a relatively high needs area. Many positions open to new hires also seemed to be combined with science.

If you are only math certified then do your best to make sure that you are qualified for secondary math and ideally some of the AP courses. There are openings every year somewhere in the world.

HelpOthers Agreed. You will want to make sure you are certified in all the math areas at middle and secondary levels including at least one or two AP classes. If you can add science or others, your application will stand out more.

Finally! However, I didn't receive any referrals for this position and it is not in my list of desired areas. Sadly, I had to turn it down. I'm wondering if they aren't trying to fill these positions first, and then they'll open up more desirable locations.

It was for a K-5 generalist in Japan.

haha I understand your frustration but equating bureaucratic incompetence/institutional neglect with intentional maliciousness will make your time working for the government even more frustrating and miserable then it needs to be. Once you are in place and settled this will (hopefully) seem like a minor/one time set back. Hang in there

@haha: I'm a Veteran and know this incompetence all too well. It shouldn't take this long to send an email for EQIP. The security manager should also respond to emails from those waiting

Anyone gotten a SPED referral since June for overseas? I called to make sure my application was active and the lady I talked to said they were still trying to hire locally. She was not on Pacific but Germany and another European country can't remember. Thanks.

textbook

It looks like I will be teaching AP Physics 1/2 and Calculus A/B next year. So that I can do my planning over the summer, is there a way to find out what textbook DoD uses? Thanks

haha If someone hasn't answered by Monday, I will check and let you know then. I know all of the math below Calculus has switched from textbooks to Engage NY materials which have to be printed off for each student, lesson by lesson.

someday Joe go online and find the school schedule for last year. It will give you an idea about everything. I have already made my lessons for the first month for one class. I have a question about the hiring process. I just got my firm offer for a SLP position, Full time for the 2018-19 school year. Once the year contract is over, like most schools are teachers and therapists offered the same position for the next year first? Thanks;)
