Just a quick question here. Does anyone know what the current demand is for SPED teachers by the DODEA (states or overseas.) I have a masters and state license in the area but not a ton of experience. Just wondering what the competition will be like or if there is even much of a need for SPED teachers as there is in many parts of the U.S.

haha There seem to be quite a few openings every year. SPED seems to be the most common positions for new hires we hear about on here and seems to be a good area to have for getting into DoDEA (helped me :D).

I know this is the DODEA Teachers chat but just curious about anyone's experience in being a Counselor (or similar positions) with Dodea and how that hiring process went? I am a certified educator, military spouse but currently enrolled in a School Counseling program and so excited to eventually make the switch over.

haha It will vary wildly by location, principal, etc. but many will be open to it, especially as you are a military spouse. I know of a couple of people who have arranged student teaching or internships at DoDEA schools so it can be done. You do have to apply and jump through some hoops which can take some time so apply as early as you can.

HelpOthers You only need a practicum, not internship; however, to receive a state certificate from a state in the USA you will likely need to complete an internship. I was referred for a position in Europe and is this a sit back and wait situation or should I directly email the principal by resume/cover letter? I'm not sure really what to do and I've been a public school teacher for 13 years - this is my first referral. Any helps, suggestions, and advice welcome. TIA!

I have heard that less people are getting emails for interviews and are just getting a call, is that true? Also if you do just get a call , would it come up unknown caller or blocked?

So I had an interview Monday. Felt it went great. They checked my references Wednesday. My references are reliable. I've used them for years. Haven't heard anything. Shouldn't I have gotten an informal offer by now if I got the position?

3westies I am a kindergarten local hire in Germany. I have military spouse and veteran preference. It is almost impossible to get jobs here. Dodea is tough anyways and then a lot of these bases are small. I couldn't even get hired to sub last year.
